1. RMGA cert required

• This measure can only be performed by a Rocky Mountain Gas Association certified technician. 

2. CSST cert required 

• Technicians must be certified for the brand of CSST when using this type of piping material.

3. Turn off gas 

• Shut the gas off at meter before starting any repair to the gas line. 

4. Shut off valve 

• Shutoff valve shall be located in the same room as the appliance it is servicing. 

• The shutoff valve shall also be within 6 feet of the appliance, shall be installed upstream of the union, connector or quick disconnect device it serves. 

• Shutoff valves shall be provided with access. 

• Appliance shutoff valves located in the firebox of a fireplace shall be installed in accordance with the appliances manufacturer's instructions. ( IFGC:409 Shutoff Valves) 

5. Drip leg 

• Drip Leg NOT incorporated as part of the appliance, shall be installed downstream of the appliance shutoff valve

•  As close to the inlet of the appliance as practical. 

• Drip Leg shall be either a tee fitting having a capped nipple of any length installed vertically in the bottommost opening of the tee or other devices approved as an effective drip leg. ( IFGC:408.4) 

6. Repair leaks 

• Tighten or replace leaky fittings or parts. 

• Apply thread compound or gas line tape to the male end of all threaded fittings. 

• Do not use tape or compounds on compression fitting. 

• Discard any old gas connectors. 

• Pre-made CSST gas connectors cannot be used more than once. 

7. Pressure test 

• Any gas line repairs on the main line shall be pressure tested at 10 psi for 15 mins 

8. Turn gas on 

• After repair is complete turn gas back on. 

9. Purge gas line

• When testing is completed purge the gas line of all excess air from the repair.

10. Post testing 

• After repair to gas line is complete clear pipe of all foreign material. 

• Perform inspection and tests using non corrosive leak-detecting fluid or other approved leak-detection methods. 

• When testing with combustible gas detector (CGD) move wand in a 360-degree circle completely around each joint at a rate of 1 inch per second. 

11. relight pilot lights 

• When appliances that have a pilot light are present make sure you relight them.
