WAP program guidelines require that new detectors must have a digital display with test and reset button.
Alarms must have a locked battery compartment and be powered by a long life lithium battery.
Detector shall have a 10 year manufacturer warranty.
Remove all existing detectors that are older than 10 years, or beyond the manufacturer's stated lifetime, or inoperable.
Look for an installation dates on device or battery.
Write the date of installation on the label of the new detector.
Install CO detector(s) on each occupiable level, outside each separate sleeping area within 21 feet of any sleeping room door, in all sleeping rooms containing fuel-burning appliances.
New CO alarms must be installed per the requirements of NFPA 72 (which supercedes NFPA 720).
An occupiable level has to be neither directly conditioned nor finished, although it must be within the pressure boundary of the home.
Be sure to maintain 3 inch clearance from the ceiling.
Don’t install detectors within 15 feet of gas ranges or combustion devices.
Test newly installed detectors to ensure proper operation.
Leave owners manual and educate client on detector operation and maintenance.
