Door Air Sealed
Steps 1a - 1c.
Use a durable stop-mounted or jamb-mounted weather-strip to seal the door’s side jambs and head jamb.
Apply caulking to the back of the weather-strip to prevent air from leaking behind the weather-strip.
Ensure proper operation of the door system.
Door should seat against the weather stripping
Install threshold if needed to prevent air leakage at the door bottom.
Threshold should not bind on door and needs to be caulked underneath and both sides.
Install corner seals (pads or wedges) to close the gaps at the bottom corners of the door jambs.
Seal gaps between the stop and jamb with caulk.
Cut door sweep to width of door.
Install sweep on interior side of door using screws (caulk back side of sweep before installing).
Sweep must contact threshold. Ensure proper operation of the door.
Seal between the fixed components of the window (e.g., jambs, sill)
Caulk or sealant will be continuous and complete while maintaining the operability of the window.
Locks will be installed so that the rails of the upper and lower sashes are flush and in full contact.
No gaps will be visible between the two sashes. Locks will be installed to achieve compression of the two sashes.
Install covers so the pulleys are completely covered and don't interfere with window operation
Caulk the window frame where appropriate to prevent air leakage and condensation.
Glazing points may be needed to secure glass prior to installing glazing compound.
Glazing compound will be added in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Ensure glazing compound will adhere to sash.
Allow glazing compound to harden to ensure secure installation.
Use a durable stop-mounted weather-strip to seal all sides of the window.
Seal the back of the weather-strip to prevent air from leaking behind the weather-strip.
Use self taping screws to fasten to window frame.
Install new latch.
