A monthly e-newsletter to keep you connected to your District
This week we honor our amazing teachers who inspire, care for, and empower our students every day. Amidst the uncertainty of the last 13+ months, our teachers have provided the stability needed to maintain the continuity of education in our district. We thank our educators for their flexibility, creativity, and perseverance. They never cease to amaze us!
Please join the Board of Education and Administration in celebrating our teachers and letting them know how much they are appreciated.
As a result of not using all of the "emergency days" built into the school calendar, the Board of Education approved the extension of the Memorial Day weekend as well as a revision to the last of school. Therefore, the district will be closed from Friday, May 28 through Tuesday, June 1, and the last day of school for all students will be Thursday, June 24. Click HERE for the Revised 2020-2021 Calendar.
The first public meeting of the month was a special meeting to conduct Board governance training. During the meeting, a representative of the NJ School Boards Association provided an overview on ethics for school officials, roles, and responsibilities.
In addition to our regular agenda, the board approved the annual budget for the 2021-2022 school year presented by the Business Administrator, Keith Rosado, and the Superintendent, Dr. Gonzalez. Highlights of the budget include:
A 0% tax levy increase to the Operating budget will allow us to continue our educational progress forward in the following areas
Programs: Continue academic, specialized, extracurricular, and athletics
Staffing: Maintain current staffing levels in all areas and provide professional development to support teacher capacity
Facilities: Continue ongoing maintenance and upgrades to existing facilities
COVID: Account for any anticipated and unforeseen needs that may arise in order to return to full time instruction in September
Check out the presentation below for additional details.

The Westwood Regional School District in the Township of Washington, NJ will soon apply for grant funds under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). We are conducting a comprehensive needs assessment in order to determine the best use of the funds. The following stakeholder groups are being consulted: teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, aides, specialized instructional support personnel, community partners/organizations, researchers, public/private entities, institutions of higher learning, local government representatives and nonpublic schools. Please review the spending options within this survey in order to let us know how you feel the funds should be spent.
Click here to access the survey. It will be open until Friday, May 28, 2021. Responses are completely anonymous.
Please contact Jill Mortimer, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, at jill.mortimer@wwrsd.org if you need additional information. Thank you for your participation.
