November 2018

A Quick Note from the superintendent ...

I hope that this message finds everyone well-rested (and digested) from a wonderful weekend. This time of year, I can't help but reflect on all the things for which I am thankful.

In addition to being thankful for my family and friends, I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with an amazing group of educators and staff and supportive Board in a community that believes in what we do. Last, but certainly not least, I am thankful for the students who inspire us and provide us hope for the future.

-Dr. G

2019-20 Online Kindergarten Pre-Registration Opens December 3, 2018

The Westwood Regional School District will begin online kindergarten pre-registration for the 2019-2020 school year on Monday, December 3, 2018.

The online registration is a pre-registration only, and students will not be considered enrolled until parents/guardians submit the required information during in-person registration in January 2019.

A child residing in the Borough of Westwood or Township of Washington who will be five (5) years old on or before October 1, 2019 is eligible to enter kindergarten. There are no exceptions to this date. To help facilitate your child’s registration, please follow this process:

Beginning December 3, 2018,

  1. go to the district’s website at www.wwrsd.org > Find It Fast> 2019-2020 Incoming Kindergarten.
  2. complete the process, review important registration procedures, and download the required forms. Registration packets may also be picked up at the Board of Education office located in the Jr./Sr. High School, 701 Ridgewood Road, Township of Washington, N.J.

If you require further assistance, please send an email to kindergarten.registration@wwrsd.org. We look forward to having your child join us in the Westwood Regional School District!

The district will make every effort to place students in their “neighborhood” schools; however, the district cannot guarantee at which district school—Berkeley, Brookside, George, Washington—your child will be placed.

Inclement Weather Procedures

The mid-November Nor'easter reminds us that Mother Nature does not always follow the school calendar. As a reminder, please review our annual inclement weather procedures posting to familiarize yourself with the types of changes that may occur during an inclement weather event.

Inclement Weather Procedures

Please remember that all school districts make the best decision based on the information available at that time. Since we share transportation routes with other districts in the Pascack Valley, many variables are considered when determining the status of the school day. Decisions are rarely clear-cut, consider the road conditions in both municipalities, and often must be made with inconsistent weather reports that are changing up until the morning of a school day.

We are looking forward to a dry winter (or at least snow on the weekends). In the meantime ... stay warm and safe travels.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

At the Board of Education public meeting on November 20 (rescheduled from November 15), student artwork was on display from the Jr./Sr. High School Graphic Design I class showcasing the artistic creativity among some of our students (click HERE to view the agenda).

POLICIES

The following Board policies were approved

Any policies currently under review by the full Board can found HERE and ALL Board approved policies and regulations can be found on the district website under the Board of Education drop down menu.
