We had an exciting end to another amazing school year. After 10 months of hard work and engaging teaching and learning, I hope everyone is taking time to relax, rejuvenate, and get ready for September.
On behalf of the entire WRSD school community, I'd like to congratulate our Senior Class of 2018. We are proud of all they accomplished while students in our schools and look forward to hearing about their achievements on the next leg of their journey in life. I would also like to acknowledge those who have chosen the path of military service:
Thank you for your courage, service, and dedication to our Country.
I look forward to seeing everyone again when school begins on September 4.

In June, the Board of Education held two public meetings. The meeting on June 14 was filled with celebrations and recognitions of students, staff and parent-school officer organizations for their achievements, dedication and contribution to the district, as well as the recognition of the 2017-18 Student Representatives for their contributions to the Westwood Regional School District Board of Education and the introduction of the new Board of Education Student Representatives for the 2018-19 school year.
At the public meeting on June 28, we recognized many accomplishments among our students during a review of our HS spring sports and visual/performance arts programs. The Board of Education also conducted interviews to fill the open seat and selected the newest BOE member, Andrew Gerstmayr.

Each month at our public meeting of the Board of Education, our HS student representatives, Erik Kopp and Sydney Lewis, report out on the exciting news and activity taking place at our Jr/Sr High School (Click here to view an archive of the 2017-18 student representative reports from the Jr/Sr High School.)
After a successful pilot during Spring 2018, and in accordance with current studies, the Future Ready Schools program, and our own community-created Strategic Plan, the Westwood Regional School District will be launching a 1:1 Chromebook initiative in September of 2018, wherein a Chromebook will be issued to every student in grades 8-12.
As a result of this initiative, students will always have a device with them for anytime-anywhere learning, and teachers will be able to plan and deliver lessons more effectively, knowing that every student will have a reliable, district-managed Chromebook in his or her possession at all times.
For years, the Westwood School District has been steadily preparing for and evolving towards the realization of 21st-century digital classrooms in order to prepare our students for the workplace of the future. This 1:1 chromebook initiative represents yet another large stride in that direction. Having used cart-bound Chromebooks for the past 3 years, we feel that our teachers and students are now fully ready to take this logical next step, and realize the educational benefits that it entails.

This year, we have two members of the school district who are joining the ranks of retired professionals. Their hard work and dedication will always be remembered and greatly appreciated by everyone in the school community. We thank each of our retirees for their time with us and we wish them well as they move on to their next adventure!
