Welcome to the Active period of the campaign!
Grab your campaign plan and start implementing it. If you took advantage of the prep period, you should have a suite of communications and activities ready for use. This is when you start to roll them out according to your campaign plan's calendar.
Take a moment to review each piece before using it. You might find that a piece drafted in August needs a little refresh in December.
Take advantage of the resources from CauseMic. Give!Guide has been their source data for two years running and their tips will apply to your campaign plans. View the CauseMic page and learn more.
Reach out if your plan isn't yielding the expected results or if you need help. You're welcome to self-schedule for a meeting with G!G HQ. Don't be shy, we're here to help!
We have special days sprinkled throughout the campaign to keep things fun and exciting. These days should be a part of your campaign plan. They include:
Kickoff (11/1) - The first day of the campaign, Nov. 1, is on a Saturday this year. There will be a ton of buzz from us and all the nonprofits, plus the October 29 print issue of Willamette Week will be dedicated to Give!Guide. We're also layering a Big Give Day onto the kickoff for even more attention.
Big Give Days - There are 12 BGDs planned for this year. Prizes include shopping sprees, local getaways, and big product giveaways from community partners and nonprofits. Almost half of all G!G revenue occurs on BGDs. They should be a critical part of your campaign plan. The dates are:
November 1, 5, 12, 19, 25
December 2, 10, 17, 27, 28, 29, 30 (More BGD dates added as needed)
Details on the Wiki's Big Give Days page.
#GivingTuesday (12/2) - It's a massive day in the G!G calendar and should be for you, too. We're spicing things up by layering a BGD on top of #GivingTuesday. This transforms the global day of generosity into one that's also hard-core local. Learn more at the official #GivingTuesday site.
The LAST Day (12/31) - This is the single highest grossing day of the campaign. The last day is a wild ride. For the past three consecutive years, we've raised over $1 million dollars on 12/31 with nonstop activity until the last second. (Wheee, procrastinators!)
Category Spotlights - We also feature every category in a special newsletter to our full mailing list. Here is this year's schedule:
Nov. 2-8: Civil & Human Rights
Nov. 9-15: Community / Home
Nov. 16-22: Education
Nov. 23-29: Human Services / Animals
Nov. 30 - Dec. 6: Health
Dec. 7-13: Environment
Dec. 14-20: Hunger
Dec. 21-27: Creative Expression
Think of G!G as a matchmaker between donors and nonprofits. When someone chooses to donate to your nonprofit, we step out of the way and let you carry that relationship going forward.
Donor acquisition one of the biggest benefits of being in G!G which is why we put so much emphasis on timely gift acknowledgement. Every time a donor makes a gift, your nonprofit will automatically be notified and the donor gets a transaction receipt (this is different from a tax receipt). This notification is your cue to start the activities diagramed above.
A thank you note the first step in transitioning your new donors into lifetime donors. Research shows that the lack of gift acknowledgement is one of the biggest reasons donors stop giving. If you can manage just a 10% increase in your donor retention rate, then a 200% increase in your donors' lifetime value is possible.
Worried about keeping track of your donors? Don't be! We'll send a weekly report every Friday morning of all your donations to date. This will be an easy file that should play nice with your CRM. And if that's not often enough, you also have the ability to pull a report on demand.
Learn more about donations, thank you notes, tax receipts, donation reports and more on the Donations & Reports page.
REQUIRED ACTIONS:
✅ Send thank you notes within 48 hours
✅ Send tax receipts within 2 weeks
✅ If your nonprofit offered incentives, get them distributed
Email or snail mail works, your pick!
There are the three donation types:
normal (credit card) - A donation made on giveguide.org with a credit card or digital wallet (nearly 98% of all transactions).
direct-to-nonprofit (offline) - A donation sent directly to the nonprofit through their giving portal. When this happens, you can get "soft credit" to your campaign by reporting it to G!G.
direct-to-G!G (offline) - A donation mailed to G!G HQ with list of nonprofit distributions.
If you get an offline donation, you must report it along with proof of payment. This must be done as quickly as you receive it. Learn more about donation types on the Wiki's Donation page.
