TEACHING IN THE FACE TO FACE SET UP
I had been waiting for this week as I am much excited for my limited face to face class. During the weekend, I prepared for the lesson plan and instructional material. I was so glad that finally I could already teach into the real set up. I handled Grade 9 Groups 2, 3, 4, and 5. I am actually challenged because I have to give class to four groups within a week, very far from the usual two online classes I hold last quarter, but instead of being nervous, I was so determined to give my best.
When I handled my first class, I noticed the students. They are very serious. I really think that they are absorbing the fact that they are now back to the old ways they learn. In a span of two years, many of them have changed so no wonder why their approach changed too.
I teach while my mentor was observing. I knew I perform good as to what my mentor said, but our reaction doesn't meet our expectations. Learners were still too serious. They are intimidated to speak. They seem to by shy of reciting. I was about lose hope, but a realization came that I haven't actually made a consultation with these learners that my way of teaching may or may not suit them. I can that they still learn a lot, but for me, the first class served as a reflection to which aspect of myself should be improved and so I tried to brainstorm for activities or ways that learners will engage actively, that I can say the classroom atmosphere is set to become learner-centered.
However, the changes were not executed because of the extreme weather condition that fall the same week. Classes were cancelled until Friday especially during that same week was Lenten Season. So I had no choice but to apply the revisions for the other groups which I will be handling the next week since my mentor agreed on having more exposure to teaching because Grade 9 learners will wait for more weeks before coming back to school.
For such case, I was really hopeful to apply the lessons in my way of teaching because I wanted to keep a standard for teaching learners in such set up, still, I was thankful I handled a class because the feeling is totally different from the way I teach in the virtual set up.
Teaching my first group of learners in the face to face set-up.
Teaching another set of learners.
Last group handled for the week.
