MAKING MULTIPLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
This week was like the day of the judgment. I had my final teaching demonstration, Parent-Teacher Conference and Card Day. Monday of the week feels like heavy already, but I didn't let my anxiety blocked me from proving myself as a well-trained practice teacher.
My final demonstration was scheduled on Thursday of the week while the conference and card day was on Friday. For three days of preparation, I knew I could give out the best, but things are not going as what I thought. There were various tasks that I needed to do first such as giving of the modules for learners which comes to school any time of the week, arranging with the set up of the demonstration and dealing with the concerns of my cooperating teachers.
I talked to my mentor and asked for his supervision and his words made me breathe like I just got recovered from being too paranoid. He told me to recall his strategy when he deal with parents during the previous Card Day. These events happen all of a sudden but he coped it up because he remained firm and stood for himself. He told me not to think too much but work things one by one. Only by that time I was able to do things accordingly. Probably because I am afraid I may fail or hear words that could pushed me down.
I stopped on thinking and worked. As for the demonstration, I arranged with my cooperating teacher the set up which is to have my teaching demo virtually because learners that I handle for the quarter have no schedule of face to face encounter for that specific week. My teachers agreed on it so I started working on my lesson plan and instructional material. Knowing that I am to be observed, I made a promise to incorporate all the lessons I got in my entire internship journey.
The day came and I had my demo. The first thing which made me happy was knowing that I finished it exactly in a span of an hour which is very particular to one of my cooperating teachers. By that, I was already satisfied with my performance. This was justified with the comments of my cooperating teachers. Dr. Delgado and Prof. Gaitan gave their comments and observations to the way I handled my class, Some of their comments that really marked on me includes words or phrases such as well-prepared, reflective, relatable, promising, and that I have a heart on teaching.
With their feedbacks, I knew that I was able to make them proud, not only them but my mentor as well. My performance during the demonstration was a great evidence of how I was trained at San Joaquin School of Fisheries being my area of assignment, and how I am being molded and prepared by my institution, West Visayas State University.
After the demo, I was so certain of where I am being taken by my actions, but I did not think so much of the possibilities for myself, I focused on complying the tasks which I am obliged to do, especially that the next day, I will be facing another critics - the parents.
Friday of the week, we had the Parent-Teacher Conference and Card Day. The nearly coming Graduation and Completion Rites of both Grade 10 and 12 Learners are being discussed. I was in-charge of the attendance sheets during the meeting. After the conference, parents came to the rooms of their children for the card day. I thought that it will be too challenging for me because I was the one being given the task to manage it, but my mentor did not leave me. He was by my side when I was responding to the queries of the parents. It feels so satisfying that I can finally do what I was observing on him when I was on my first weeks of being a practice teacher and fortunately, no hard moments happen because no parent complained about the grades of their children under the subject I am teaching.
This week is really exhausting, but at least I was able to face it and made amazing remarks for myself. The accomplishments are so fulfilling and the happiness is overflowing. It was indeed a great experience and so I deserved to reward myself with a good rest.
Final demonstration teaching for my 2nd shift and consultation/evaluation with the Chairpersons for Secondary Teaching Internship Dr. Gelgado and Prof. Gaitan from West Visayas State University - College of Education.
PTA Conference and Card Day for the 3rd Quarter. This time, I was the one who managed and answered the concerns of the parents regarding their child's progress.
