MASTERY OF WORK AS
PRE-SERVICE TEACHER
The 3rd week was no different to the previous week. Same tasks were done, same scenarios were observed. However, the feeling is less heavier than what I experience a week ago. Probably because I have absorbed already the instructions and reminders of my mentor and adjusted to some school works.
However, as I finished doing tasks, I noticed that new tasks were coming. There are unexpected things that must be done and prioritized other than what you do at the moment. This repeatedly happen in a span of days. For example, after distributing the modules, there is a need to make a letter to be addressed for the parents of students with regards to the upcoming limited face to face classes weeks from now. After checking the answer sheets, I need to go to teachers to deliver the activity sheets of learners on their respective subject teachers. One time, I had to stopped on checking the answer sheets of learners because parents come to question about the grades or the performance of their child which must be given attention and so I had to entertain them other than telling that I am currently at work.
I know that these were all part of the teaching profession, I know sudden moments, I was just overwhelmed once again because of sudden shifting of obligations that may happen anytime, any day.
There I figured out that teacher roles are actually more than what is being taught and said to us, there were more that I discovered when days passed being a practice teacher. I was so wrong when I expected that it would be fine at all since no learners come to school, but actually, I felt the burden of teachers monitoring their learners from distance, worrying about the work that they submit as a response to self-paced learning, and dealing with the academic or professional requirements.
It was during this days when I realized that no teacher stays calm and free. Teachers at San Joaquin School of Fisheries are really inspiring because they still think of their learners allowing me to sense the passion they have for teaching. By that, I got the reason not to complain for what I chose, because the school shown me a workforce that is responsible, passionate, caring and professional.
This first three weeks may be too long not to adjust and cope with the culture of the school, but for me, it was just enough to earn the right amount of motivation, to stand for what I chose, to continue what I started, and to create impacts to the learners and to the entire institution. Now, I marked myself ready and prepared for what's coming next.
