TEACHERS AS MASTER CRAFTSMEN
Weeks passed and all the tasks known or not, given ahead of time or all of a sudden, appeared to be ordinary and is done effectively. I've become used to things which I really am complaining before. I actually didn't noticed that slowly, I'm becoming someone whose values and attributes are of a real teacher and I am glad because as far as I could remember, it was one thing which my mentor reminded me the moment I entered the school, to treat myself as a real teacher, as one of them.
This week, I became more stable, I find myself capable of doing things and accomplishing tasks with the same or better quality but with lesser time and effort. Probably that what gives me more time to do other tasks. Of all the responsibilities I got the entire week, I get to realize that if to categorized, majority of what I did was on crafting.
One evidence of it is crafting and designing lesson plan and instructional material. Doing it every week challenged me to think of a better plan thinking how my learners will keep the consistency of active engagement in our online encounters. With their response, I think that I am actually passionate in preparing for them. Another example is when I made a long quiz intended for the first 3 MELC's of the quarter. I was thinking hard on how I could craft a test questionnaire that is valid and reliable. I really spend time brainstorming for the type of test I could give them. We tested the validity through the help of my mentors and his colleagues who were designers of lesson exemplars and modules in the Division of Iloilo. By that time, I thought that I was blessed for being surrounded with teachers who excels in various fields. The compliment they gave me as to the test paper was so comforting. Of course they provided corrections most especially with the instructions and formulation of questions for every item. Now it was ready for distribution.
The moment it came back, I was satisfied with the scores of the learners proving that I made a test which they really understand and is based on the purpose of it.
During the same week, my mentor requested me along with my Social Studies Practice Teachers to partner with them for the Celebration of Women's Month. We were with them in planning, organizing and facilitating events and activities such as Poster Making, Essay Writing, tabulating score sheets for different contests, making brochures to be distributed to the learners, designing a bulletin board for Gender and Development and installation of tarpaulins in the school grounds for promoting the agenda of the celebration.
With these tasks, I could say that teachers are master craftsmen for artistically producing outputs which aren't only beautiful to see, fun to experience, or worthy to be participated, but because there is always learning at the end of everything they do. So as a practice teacher, I am glad I experienced crafting things. As a beginner, it may not be as beautiful as the works of the teachers, but already a good start of producing more quality outcomes for the rest of my internship journey or even until my deployment as a teacher someday.
