KNOWING THE DUTIES OF A TEACHER
Bringing with me the reminder of my mentor about a more serious work for this week, I prepared myself enough to face it with confidence. I went to school early in the morning to attend the weekly Flag Raising Ceremony. I was formally introduced to the school faculty and staff. I felt the warmest welcome from them which made me easier to reach out from them to socialize and make friends with.
Right after the flag ceremony, I went to the room and did some cleaning. The following hour, there were students and parents coming inside the classroom. I was a bit on a panic since their adviser who was my mentor was in the office. I tried to speak to them presenting myself and asking for their purpose of coming to school. I forgot that Mondays are actually intended for distribution and retrieval of their learning activity sheets. I called my mentor and he came. I carefully observed what he was doing. After a while, I finally knew what to do so I volunteered to do the sorting of answer sheets for the next students to come.
It all went good, but I was actually surprised. I didn't expect the amount of energy spent for a day, but still, I am happy that I was able to accomplished the task.
The following day, I sorted the answer sheets of learners per subject and gave it to their subject teachers. Since my assignment for the 3rd quarter were the Grade 10 learners, I was given a record sheet. Immediately that day, I checked the answer sheets of the learners with the instruction on how activities are being rated and with how the papers are being kept. The next days were intended for distribution of modules to subject teachers. Subject teachers were also coming to give the modules for the advisory class of my mentor.
The week ended a bit rough. Friday afternoon a random thought came to my mind saying "kapoy gale nu?". I said the line randomly but I knew it was a sweet realization, which actually made my mentor and his fellow teachers laughed. He told me that there are more to experience, and I will have more realizations as each week passes by. I had a deep thinking on my mentor's words, but it was replaced with comfort when he gave me the assurance that he will be with me for the rest of my internship experience in school, and it felt like I was able to breath.
Before going home, we had some talks about my primary observations regarding the responsibilities of a teacher. I honestly said that I was overwhelmed by the amount of energy that is needed to be exerted both in mind and body, but it is fun to do because teachers kept on cheering me saying there's nothing I can do, for they can see how determined I am with what I am doing.
So to not be surprised, we arranged things chronologically which could really helped me in accomplishing all my tasks easier and better.
