DEPLOYMENT WEEK
Before the 2nd semester of the current school year started, I already knew it that would be the heaviest time for a pre-service teacher to deal with. I wasn't mistaken because the moment it began, we were surprised with the number of requirements that we have to comply and prepare for. These includes medical and academic documents, orientations for deployment and of course myself in all of my aspects which is unaware of what awaits me to my area of assignment.
During the first week, I had a talk with the School Principal where I was assigned. From our conversation, he told me about the school works, systems, and even his expectations for me. I was too nervous that time yet my heart was filled with excitement as I can't wait to think of myself as a teacher. After the talk, he called all the Social Studies teachers in the school and together they discussed and agreed on who could best handle me so that my internship experience will be worthy and wholesome.
That time, while listening to their deliberation, my fear and anxiety was replaced with gratitude and grace because I saw with my own eyes how dedicated they were to train me for this career. Starting that time, I promised not to disappoint them for having me in their school.
Dr. Rommel Gegato became my Mentor, my cooperating teacher. After the talk with the Social Studies Teachers and the Principal, I and my mentor had a talk. He scheduled a time the following day for an orientation.
The orientation included the schedule for module retrieval and distribution, the working hours, the plan for holding online classes and for making assessment for learners, the familiarization of student advisers as well as the whole teachers and staff, the classrooms of the learners and the rest that is believed to be the basic obligations of a teacher in this mode of learning.
The first week went well with socialization, familiarization and planning. It was a great start for someone like me whose much excited to work and gain experience. It ended with a reminder to prepare myself for a more serious work the following week. I was unsure, but I knew I wasn't on this journey for nothing, so I was even challenged to face the next weeks that are coming my way.
