Not much is known about the origins of the Umbral Phantoms, but what is known is that they are formless beings that distort alongside walls and corners they can find theirself in.
Umbral Phantoms are thought to be trapped souls or spirits of people who used to inhabit locations that have been deserted due to Cognitive Resonance Conversion, but this is unconfirmed and remains a theory. Others believe that they formed due to negative memories given off from previous inhabitants in the levels that have been erased from CRC.
Umbral Phantoms will typically stay ditto; however, they react to direct observation by any explorer. Upon being sighted or approached, they may fade away into the shadows they are immersed in. Umbral Phantoms are mostly attractive to weak lights of any level and will move towards them, allowing their true forms to be seen and could even freak out explorers who take a bit of sight upon them.
Umbral Phantoms feed on fear of other explorers, hence why they may approach weak lights of any type. In attempts to startle the explorers nearby.
Encountering a Phantom will cause the air to feel suddenly very thick and will give the explorer a feeling that the shadows are staring at them using invisible eyes under their shadows.
Umbral Phantoms tend to speak and can tell explorers cryptic and dark secrets that have never been revealed before or could just end up as complete gibberish. Their voices are documented to echo and resonate all over levels they speak in.
Umbral Phantoms often take the form of a silhouette and stretch or dance along walls.
