Job Description

Papalaxsimisha is looking for an intern who has a passion for supporting youth, families and community members while collaborating with community partners. The Intern will work closely with our program coordinator and our community facilitators on their projects and groups. The Intern plays an important role in providing support to the Papalaxsimisha team through assisting in the planning and implementation of the various programs designed to increase community participation and center the needs and voices of the community. The Intern will support, implement and co-lead various programming alongside our community partners as well as support the Middle and High School Native American Student Union (NASU) activities, events and programming. The Intern will also support the Papalaxsimsha team with logistical and outreach support. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• 
  Promote Papalaxsimisha’s mission, and inform the community about Papalaxsimisha’s services and role in the community. 

• Direct contact with community members through resource distribution tabling and activities/events throughout the community. 

• Deliver a range of innovative community outreach and engagement activities and actively gather and facilitate community feedback. 

• Assist the Program Coordinator or other staff in the development, design, and implementation of community events, activities and programming.

• Assist the Program Coordinator or other staff with creating flyers and social media content that is updated and includes accessibility information. 

• Assists with presentations about community awareness and programs to community entities/stakeholders

• Publicizes community engagement efforts through flyers, posters, social media, and networking with youth, families, community members, local groups, businesses, and organizations. 

• Attends community meetings and events as needed. 

• Compiles and documents progress reports given the feedback and data collected, as needed. 

• Work in different environments (both from home, office-based, and on the ground), at times best suited to the needs of the community including evenings and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• 
  Ability to work independently, take initiative and ask for help

• Basic Computer / Graphic Design (google, canva, adobe)

• Knowledge on creating flyers and social media engagement 

• Knowledge and understanding of Equity & Inclusion practices, reproduction health and LGBTQ+2S awareness and advocacy efforts

• Ability to be open to uncomfortable conversations 

• Interest in and/or understanding of Tribal History, Historical Trauma and the impacts of generational trauma

• Use both written and oral forms of communication 

• Clearly communicate with others within and outside of the workplace

• Work in a collaborative environment

• Plan, develop, revise, and complete projects in a timely manner

• Be organized and have good time management skills

• Problem solve and maintain a solution-oriented mindset to formulate new and innovative solutions

• Has a passion for community engagement, outreach, and care

Qualifications

• 
  14-24 years old 

• Driver license (preferred but not necessary)

• Ability to work weekends and after 5pm when needed
