Job Title: MMIR Internship
Salary Range: $15 per hour
Supervisor: Reina Estimo
Hours: 32 hours/week
Position Summary
Assist local MMIR advocates with creation of plans, forms and resources around Missing & Murdered Indigenous People/Relatives issue. Research issues around the MMIR epidemic. Build a MMIR resource guide. Plan and run prevention programs around MMIR.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Community Outreach & Education: Lead initiatives to raise awareness of the MMIR crisis within Indigenous communities and the broader public. Organize community events, workshops, and information sessions to educate on prevention, rights, and resources.
Advocacy & Policy Work: Advocate for legislative and systemic changes to address the causes and impacts of MMIR. Collaborate with government officials, law enforcement, and advocacy groups to push for policies that protect Indigenous lives and hold offenders accountable.
Collaboration: Establish and maintain partnerships with Indigenous leaders, organizations, law enforcement agencies, legal teams, and mental health professionals to ensure that affected families receive holistic support.
Resource Development: Develop and distribute materials related to the MMIF crisis, including legal guides, emotional support resources, and advocacy toolkits.
Public Relations & Media Engagement: Engage with media outlets to share stories of missing or murdered Indigenous people, ensuring that the stories of affected families are heard and that public pressure is built for justice and change.

Required Certifications/Licenses

Work Environment
Possible exposure to airborne pathogens (e.g., COVID-19). May be required to wear personal protective equipment such as facemasks (for respiratory protection) and/or gloves.
Physical Demands
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift and/or support up to 75lbs
While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to sit, and to use hands to handle/feel objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, to taste or smell, to climb or balance, to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
