How is the course assessed?

Examination:100%

Component 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices. 

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes (50% of GCSE).


Component 2: Thematic studies.

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes (50% of GCSE).


What is the content of the course?

Our GCSE course provides a broad understanding of the beliefs and practices of the faiths studied, as well as a range of contemporary themes that will promote awareness of modern-world issues, which students will be able to reflect on and develop their own values, beliefs and attitudes in light of what they have learnt.

What could I study Post-16?

This course is excellent (though not essential) preparation for either an A level in Religious Studies or Philosophy as part of the IB Diploma Programme. 

It relates to lots of content in other subjects, especially the Humanities and Social Sciences.


What possible careers could I have?

The subject is essentially about people so in any career where you are working with people it is useful. Those who have studied RS go on to do all kinds of careers, including being the UK’s prime minister! Other careers include : Primary or Secondary School teacher,  University Lecturer or Researcher, Writer/Philosopher,  Charity or Aid Worker, Community Worker, Youth Worker,  Religious Leader e.g. minister or priest. 

Additional information

Students of all abilities will be challenged and inspired, whilst developing valuable skills sought after by higher education and employers, such as strong reasoning, writing, and critical thinking. In addition students will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs and practices and responses to ethical issues.
