Head of MFL:  Miss Aguiar

Qualification Level and Examination Board:  Level 1 and 2 Edexcel GCSE French (1FR1)

Level 1 and 2 Edexcel GCSE German (1GN1)

Level 1 and 2 Edexcel GCSE Spanish (1SP1)

How is the course assessed?
There are 4 exams at the end of Year 11. Each accounts for 25% of the GCSE. All exams are externally marked.  Students will be entered for either Higher or Foundation across all of the exams.

What is the content of the course?:

Students with a keen interest in French, German and/or Spanish may study it at GCSE. Please note that the German and Spanish courses are taught at a faster pace than GCSE French as students are likely to have less prior knowledge of the language.

A thematic approach to developing the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing continues throughout Years 10 and 11 in each language.

The main GCSE examination topics include; my personal world, lifestyle and wellbeing, my neighbourhood, media and technology, studying and my future and travel and tourism.

Grammatical concepts are incorporated with particular emphasis on the past, present and future tenses.

What could I study Post-16?

IB Standard and Higher Level Qualifications

What possible careers could I have?

Industries such as Tourism, Travel, Hospitality or Translation will often require workers to speak an additional language. It is also considered highly advantageous if you are interested in working in Business & Finance, Law, Education, Politics, Diplomacy, Aviation or Real Estate.

In addition to this, the ability to speak a language will give you enhanced access to countries across the world where that language is spoken, enabling you to find jobs in places you may not have heard of.
