How is the course assessed?

You will take two written papers at the end of the course. The first 1 hour 15 minute paper on the human body and movement is worth 30% of the GCSE. The second 1 hour and 15 minute paper on socio-cultural influences and well-being is also worth 30% of the course. The remaining 40% of the course is made up of practical assessment and controlled assessment. You will be assessed on your practical performance in one individual sport, one team sport, and a third activity from either category. You will analyse and evaluate your performance to bring about improvement in one of your assessed activities. 


What is the content of the course?

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the human body and movement in physical activity. You will also explore socio-cultural influences and well-being in sport. You will develop your practical skills in a range of activities and will be assessed on your practical performance.

What possible careers could I have?

Students could use this programme as good preparation for teaching, coaching, professional sport, leisure centre work, youth work, physiotherapy, sports management and outdoor education. There are additional opportunities in areas such as recreational management, officiating, the fitness industry, the armed forces and the local government. 


Additional information

There is an expectation that you will be regularly participating in several sports outside of curriculum time and will have been an active member of sports teams throughout Key Stage 3.
