What is the content of the course?
In Year 10 students follow a carousel allowing them to experience the different vocations e.g. Carpentry, Plumbing, Motor Vehicle, Trowel Trades, Engineering or Welding. They also develop their own Personal Progression Plan.
In Year 11 students choose one unit from each sector below:
Construction
Drawing a plan of a room (Built Environment)
Building a simple wall (Trowel Trades)
Making carpentry joints (Carpentry)
Fixing a water pipe (Plumbing)
Making an electrical circuit (Electrical)
Engineering
Manufacturing an engineered product using hand tools (Manufacturing Engineering)
Producing engineering drawings using CAD (Engineering)
Carrying out routine service tasks on a motor vehicle (Motor Vehicle)
Carrying out an electrical installation (Electrical Engineering).
What could I study Post-16?
Pre-apprenticeship in Exploring the Construction & Engineering Sectors
Apprenticeships in Construction or Engineering related vocations
Full-time Level 2 or Level 3 course in Engineering
What possible careers could I have?
This course provides excellent preparation for an apprenticeship and career in vocations such as Carpentry, Plumbing, Motor Vehicle, Trowel Trades, Engineering or Welding.
Additional information
There are no specific prior skills/knowledge a learner must have for this qualification. However an interest in and prior experience of construction or engineering would be beneficial.
