Today, students spiraled back to the SS standards and were introduced to our Pre-Colonial America (Geography and Exploration) Unit. Students made predictions about how our standards will connect to our first unit. We then went back to the Vocabulary Choice Board and students were given their first formal set of unit vocabulary terms for Geography. If time allowed, we labeled a map of NC as a class.
Homework: Select three boxes from the Vocabulary Choice Board and follow the directives using the Geography Vocabulary Terms. This will be due on Tuesday, September 5th.

Today, students learned about the modern-day geographical characteristics of NC's four regions by participating in Discover NC stations. To view the correct answers, scan the QR codes or enter the tinyurls for each region.

Today, students turned in their vocabulary choice boards for the Geography terms. This will be graded and returned promptly. Students were given a study guide for their upcoming assessment on Friday, September 8th. We continued our pre-colonial America studies by looking at NC's geography before and as explorers arrived. We discussed the obstacles and challenges present by our state's geography. We also labeled regions of the US on a map and noted their geographical characteristics.
Homework: Begin/continue studying all material presented up until this point. We will continue to add for our assessment on Friday!
Today, students completed a quick formative assessment during our warm-up to see how well they have retained the information we have learned so far. This helped students to see exactly what they still need to focus on for Friday's test. We then completed some notes on early explorers that were important to NC and the US. Upon completion, we reviewed several primary sources and answered open-ended questions for discussion.
