With the craziness of the past week, the schedule was slightly revised. Students took the mid-year benchmark today. The benchmark was not something to study for, nor does it count for a grade. It serves to give students and Ms. Barnard an idea of where to focus the curriculum in the upcoming months, in preparation for EOGs.
Students were asked to annotate the passages within the benchmark. These annotations were collected for a minor grade.
Students will be given time in class to finish the benchmark. There will also be time provided during CAT Thursday to make up the benchmark or complete it.
Students set goals for spring semester, and discussed what techniques & goals were and were not successful during the fall semester.
Students participated in "chat circles" after viewing & responding to four different images symbolic of the Holocaust. Students also read "Survival in Hiding during the Holocaust" in partners, while annotating the article for supportive characterization evidence.
Lastly, students watched a clip from Miep Gies, who assisted in hiding the Frank family in Holland.
Students took a comprehension quiz on Kahoot, using the article "Survival in Hiding." We prepared the Anne Frank Characterization booklet, and assigned roles for reading Act 1 of Anne Frank play.
** If missing work, students received a slip of paper with missing Quarter Two assignments. If the only assignment missing is Risk Taker presentation audience member feedback, students were not given a slip, but should reference the board.
END OF DAY Thursday is the latest time a student can hand in any missing work from Quarter Two. Otherwise, it will remain a zero (0) in the gradebook and cannot be changed.
During class, students read/ perform Act 1, Scene 3 from The Diary of Anne Frank. Students also took a quiz based on readings from the previous week, as well as recent readings from Anne Frank.
What a crazy week so far! As above, students began reading Anne Frank in class on Tuesday. We discussed in class that grades are due Friday, at which point no more work from Quarter 2 can be accepted. Students were notified if they were missing any work, and should have it in by end of day Thursday.
However, if we are not in school on Thursday, students are more than welcome to email any assignments in; my email is hgbarnard@wcpss.net. I am posting videos from the beginning of the Risk Takers unit that numerous students were missing a characteristics chart for. The Diary of Anne Frank script is posted above.
I want to help students be as successful as possible, and am doing my best to be as flexible as possible with missing assignment submission for Q2. Hopefully, we will be in school Thursday and students will have the opportunity to hand in any missing assignments in person; however, if we are not, I still cannot accept any assignments past Thursday. Assignments that have not been handed in will always be entered as a zero in PowerSchool, and students are always more than welcome to ask me if they are missing an assignment!
When we return to school, we will continue reading Act 1 of Anne Frank. There will be a comprehension quiz within Act 1 on what has been read in class so far.
Please don't hesitate to email me (hgbarnard@wcpss.net) if you have any questions!
Please refer to the Google Slides presentation on the right, the first two slides, to complete the Risk Takers Characteristics & Motivations Chart.
**You ONLY need to do this if you are missing the Risk Takers Characteristics & Motivations Chart. You would have received a slip of paper in class Tuesday telling you this assignment was missing.**
Students read through Act 1, Scene 2 of The Diary of Anne Frank. We took a quiz on "Helpers in the Holocaust" and began reading Act 1, Scene 3. As we read, students should be taking ongoing notes in their "character booklet." The directions for the character booklet are included to the slide; the PDF of the play is above.
We continued to read Act 1 of The Diary of Anne Frank during class this week. Students are expected to work on their character booklet as we read, adding adjectives and text support for each scene/ act. By end of class Thursday, most students had read to the end of Scene 4, if not started Scene 5.
Students finished reading Act 1, Scene 5 in class today. When we finished Scene 5, we watched the first Act of the film, The Diary of Anne Frank.
Students should have 3 adjectives & accompanying information for Anne and Peter from Act 1, as well as 2 adjectives and information for all other characters. Please refer above to "Character Booklet for the Diary of Anne Frank" if further instruction is needed!
We finished watching Act 1 of the Anne Frank movie on Netflix. Afterwards, the class began reading Act 2 of Anne Frank, the play, through Scene 1.
The class read Act 2, Scenes 2-3 in class today. We continued to work on our character booklets.
Students are goaled to read through Act 2, Scene 4 today in class. This may carry over until tomorrow, after which the class will watch the final act of the Anne Frank movie.
Students completed reading Act 2 of Anne Frank. We watched the final act of the movie, as well.
