Began Unit Three, Spooky October.
Students began working with Edgar Allan Poe's work. In preparation for reading "The Raven" and "Tell-Tale Heart," students worked in groups to annotate an article on Poe's life for main idea.
Homework: Students were to finish annotations of whatever was not completed in class for homework.

Students initially completed a "homework check" on main idea annotations from the previous nights homework. They then worked in groups to read "The Raven" and answer the accompanying questions found in a chart passed out the previous day.
Homework: Students were asked to finish answering the accompanying "The Raven" questions for homework, depending on what was finished in class.

In class: Students were given most of the class period to work in groups and identify various literary terms within "The Raven," which will later be drawn.

Students were given class today to complete "The Raven" illustrations & began reading an article surrounding the mystery of Poe's death.
Homework: Complete "The Raven" illustrations (will be collected first thing Wednesday) and write persuasive paragraph [if reading the article].

Students begin "Tell-Tale Heart" one-pager, due next Tuesday 11/7.
Reminder: Test corrections from Unit Two test are due Wednesday, November 8th by end of day.
Students are working on a one-pager representing the Edgar Allan Poe short story, "Tell Tale Heart." This major assignment will be completed purely in-class and not taken home; students will have until Thursday (11/9) to complete.
Core Two has until end of class Monday (11/13) to complete the One-Pager.
Extra time will be allowed for students who are absent during this time period.

In class: Students begin reading "The Speckled Band" in class- they are taking notes on a "foldable" that will later be collected for a grade.
Homework- cores 1, 3, & 4: Read and annotate (printed) pages 112-115. Students are expected to annotate on the following: setting clues (S), character inferences (C), and evidence (E). Students should also compile a list of 10 evidence clues from the homework reading.
No homework core 2.

Classes continued reading "The Speckled Band." Students are to annotate printed pages 122-125 for homework: while reading, students annotate for setting (S), evidence (E), and character clues (C). Within their foldable, students should add the following vocab words and include the context clue with it, not definition. The words are: masonry (pg 122), bell-pull (123), dummy (124), and compliance (125).
Classes continued reading "The Speckled Band." Cores 1, 3, & 4 are to write a prediction about how the story with end in their foldables. The prediction should be a well-developed paragraph (6-8 sentences) and include detailed evidence to support their prediction. Correct grammar and punctuation, as well as strong sentence structure, are necessary.

Students completed Speckled Band foldables in class today. Additional time for completion is provided until Wednesday 11/27.
Students received materials to study for the Unit Three test. Useful materials to review: mystery & suspense notes, condensed review handout, fill-in-blank review notes, and the quizlet link found on Google Classroom & listed to the right.
