Risking It All

Monday, December 11th

Students worked in the media center to begin further research on their assigned risk taker.

The below are the "goals" set for students to complete during media center work time today.

Media center work goals for Monday, 12/11:

• Find your first source- try using biography.com or history.com
  • Make sure the source is credible (no fan pages, Wikipedia, etc.)
• Print your first source
  • “Print preview” the webpage to make sure it won’t print a ton of pages
• Annotate the source
  • Underline all important info
    • Write the main idea letter next to the underlined info to help organize your information
• Create notecards on your first source- finish these for homework

Tuesday, December 12th

Below are the in-class work goals for the Risk Taker project today:

Media Center work goals Tuesday 12/12:

• Before you sign onto the computer, make sure you have your Source #1 annotated & source cards for #1 complete.
• When you have Source #1 cards complete, move on to finding your Source #2.
  • Remember, use only credible websites!
  • You will probably only need 2-3 sources total
• DO NOT PRINT your 2nd source. You are just taking notes from it on your sources cards (these will be labeled Source #2 at the top.)
• Your ultimate goal today is to gather as much info as you can- you’ll need 15 cards total, but I am only checking for five complete at the end of class.
  • Your first source should have more info than 5 notecards- I’m checking for these 5 to make sure you’re on the right track.

→ Class tomorrow: you should be finishing gathering info & starting your Google Slides

Wednesday, December 13th

Below are the in-class work goals for the Risk Taker project today:

• If not already complete, you should first finish your 15 notecards.
  • These notecards are what you will use to create your Google Slide presentation.
• When you have finished 15 notecards & have a card on each main idea, you may start your Google Slide presentation.
  • Access this through Google Classroom and make sure your presentation is linked to Google Classroom.
• While working on your presentation, reference your rubric requirements. It tells you literally what should be in each slide & what needs to be covered.
• By the end of class, you should have at least begun working on your presentation. It does not need to be complete by the end of class.

If students are not finished with their 15 source cards, THIS IS HOMEWORK. It must be complete by beginning of class tomorrow!

--> By end of class tomorrow, students should be close to finishing, if not finished with their presentation slides.

Thursday, December 14th

Below are the in-class work goals for the Risk Taker project today:

Media Center work goals Thursday 12/14:

• If not finished with your 15 source cards, you are behind. FINISH THESE FIRST.
• If you have started your Google Slides presentation- YAY! Goal for today is to finish the presentation, or at least have started & almost finished.
  • “BIG PICTURE little word”
  • Reminder: access your Google Slide presentation through Google Classroom.
  • Google Slides saves automatically; your presentation MUST be in Google Slides- not PowerPoint or another format.
• When you finish your Google Slides presentation, check it against the rubric. Make sure you have all required elements, and you are proud of your work.
  • You may then start to make presentation cards to use as a guide during your presentation.
  • Practice your presentation. Think about what you can improve on, and only use these notecards/ your slides as a guide, not script.

--> TOMORROW is the last day to work on this project in class. No extended time will be given in class to complete the project.

Friday, December 15th

Below are the work goals for the last day of working in-class on the Risk Takers project:

Friyay work goals (12/15):

• Have 15 notecards ready to be checked in class today.
• Know which day you’re presenting & write it in your agenda.
• Finish your Google Slides presentation!
  • BIG PICTURE little word-- the less words, the better!
• If you finish your Google Slides presentation early, check it against the rubric. Make sure it aligns with what the requirements are.
  • When you finish, you may begin making presentation cards; these will be little reminders of what to say while presenting so that you won’t read directly from the slide or note cards.

This is the LAST day in class students will have to complete their Google Slides presentation. If not complete or prepared to present by today, students should work at home, come in during CAT, or come in during lunch to work.
