Pre-Algebra:
Students are finishing up their function chapter (topics include: linear and nonlinear functions, relations vs functions, graphing linear functions, writing equations from a linear function). This is very similar to their Linear Equation chapter (graphing in slope-intercept form). Our Function Test is Friday, January 12.
Reading/Writing
Reading:
We are working on analyzing a spoken word poem, "For Every One," by Jason Reynolds this week. Students will complete a one pager to display the themes, tones, and symbols from the poem. Next week, students will come up with questions and conduct a Socratic Seminar next Friday.
Writing:
Students selected a word for the year as a focus and created an anamograph. Also, we are having our writing celebration on Friday. We will begin exploring informational writing next.
History
Our focus has turned to the Revolutionary War. This week we are examining the impact of the French and Indian War, Colonial Resentment, Debt, and the Proclamation Line of 1763 and how they combined to represent an underlying cause of the war.
