Reading
Mathematics
Algebra:
Students are learning about Systems of Linear Equations (and Inequalities) and how to solve them in 3 ways. We're wrapping up Graphing through a Ski Resort Project and will be moving on to Substitution. This chapter is a great way to review all of the graphing and equation skills that we've been working on all year.
Pre-Algebra:
Students have learned how to find slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines, how to graph horizontal and vertical lines, as well as reviewed Proportional Relationships and Unit Rates (a 7th grade standard) to prepare for more graphing!
Reading/Writing
Reading:
Students will have a Socratic Seminar on Monday during class. Then, students will choose a claim to make about the podcast and write a literary analysis essay. Also, we will work on vocabulary from the podcast and have a quiz on Monday, November 20th..
Writing:
Students finished a traditions map and are completing quick writes of ideas related to some of the traditions on their map. Students also read a student exemplar and identified examples of the elements of a personal narrative in the text. Next, in grammar, students will work on additonal subordinating conjunctions and how to use those in clauses in complex sentences.
History
Students are working on analyzing primary source illustrations and pictures from American Colonial History. Students are identifying sources that can help us understand a time in history or sources that can be used to fool people into false beliefs about a time period in history.
