Review:
Recommended to me by my friend Lewis.
First of all, this movie and I go back FAR. Lewis kept bugging me about it all the time. He originally told me about this anime movie back in like the Akame ga Kill days-ish probably, and i honestly didn't like the idea of an anime movie. I thought it wouldn't give me enough time to adapt to the characters and the story. Idk why i thought that tho, because anime movies work just like any other movie. There is plenty of time to create a story and develop characters.
All I knew about this anime going into it was that the characters switch bodies. That's it. My expectations were set solely based upon that singular concept. This movie was amazing. The best ending possible, sorta predictable story aspects, as i recorded my reaction and I called so many different things like the whole timeline thingy and other small details. It felt very reminiscent of the bunny girl senpai movie, where the main goal was to save mai from dying by going back in time. In bunny girl senpai it's a little more confusing because you have 2 versions of the same characters interacting with eachother, while in your name that doesn't really happen. Either way, the whole time travel thing is always gonna be interesting to me. It was interesting in Charlotte, it's gonna be interesting in your name.
The overall uniqueness of the story, the repetitive link back to the title of the movie, the mysterious phenomena happening with drinking the sake and meeting at the mountain, it was just so beautiful and interesting. This shit hit different. Ending was absolutely amazing, definitely the best and happiest ending possible. Fuck you bokuben. (first ever anime movie that didn't already have its own anime prior! also 30th anime/show on this list) (Edit: if ur questioning why this isn't higher, its because its only a movie and not it's own show. If this was the Anime Movie list, this would be #1. However, anime that have more time for character and story development are obviously gonna be better on the ANIME list. The fact that Your Name is this high should show how good it is by being JUST a movie).
