Review:
Recommended by my cousin nate.
this anime has a bad ending for 2 reasons. Number 1, I watched it in dub. Number 2, almost everyone dies.
yeah akame ga kill was the first of nate’s recommendations, as i didnt know where to look after Senko San. This got me into the emotional/sad/intense anime which I would encounter more of in the future. I would compare Akame to Charlotte or something, because it gets intense and emotional alot of the time.
I hadn't quite experienced that a whole ton, MHA kiinddaaa did that but that's more of a fighting anime like Demon Slayer with more epic moments that cover for the depression you get from character deaths. Akame and Charlotte dont really have those, the story just kinda happens and it's painful to watch at points
With all of that being said, I will say the storyline and characters are very interesting and memorable, and the anime isn't terrible overall. I just personally don't like the ending.
Review (Rewatch):
Rewatched in sub (not dub this time) with my friend Detrezo.
I wanted to come back to this anime for a couple reasons. Firstly, I originally watched this in dubbed because my cousin told me to. I think this made me view some emotional scenes as less impactful. Secondly, this was one of my first anime, so I think it's about time I came back to it and gave it some new light, especially with how much anime I've watched since.
I like this anime alot! The characters are pretty cool, the fights are well done, the story is pretty basic but interesting, the pacing is quite good, and the visuals are good when they need to be. Some minor complaints are that alot of shots in the show are looped or just not animated at all, but the fights are usually well done. The soundtrack is also kinda nothing burger, it fits and doesn't take anything away so I'd give it an 7.5/10 for being good but nothing crazy. I really enjoyed the voice acting in the sub. Bulat (my favorite character) is voiced by the same dude who voices Tengen from demon slayer, and all the other voices were just straight up better than the dub.
I didn't find myself viewing the emotional scenes much differently than before, and this is for a couple reasons. First of all, I know the big plot points. Even after several years of not watching this, I still remember who dies and who doesn't. The second reason I still don't feel anything about these deaths is because they feel so pointless. It felt like they were just killing characters for shock value, just so they could be replaced by another character to kill off for shock value. This is by far the biggest flaw with the writing and the overall quality of this show.
That being said, I overall viewed this show much more favorably than the last time I saw it. I went in with an open mind and came out impressed and satisfied. This really is not a bad anime by any means but it still has some of the flaws that I felt it had a couple years ago.
