(Partial Your Lie in April Spoilers)
Review:
Added somewhere around the Konosuba era when my cousin Nate recommended it to me.
This movie was really, really good. Very emotional concept, insane character development, an overall good story. Nate told me it would be really sad, I didn’t feel that way. I thought it would be Your Lie in April levels of sadness, but it didn’t quite get there for obvious reasons.
This movie had a great ending and a simple timeline of events, which made it good! I don’t really have much to say about it, the characters and the concepts were portrayed well and it did a good job at what it tried to do, which was to reconcile the relationships between all the characters.
it was great but wasn’t super, super emotional like I thought it would be. Your Name was more emotional to me, even though Your Name didn’t touch up on concepts like suicide. I feel like that aspect of A Silent Voice definitely made me feel sad to an extent, but thankfully no one actually died. Your Name just hit different ig lol.
Review (Rewatch):
Rewatched with Detrezo.
I first watched this in a call with Frost, and I was totally not paying attention. Like, I didn't get the point of the movie, I wasn't paying attention to the character decicsions or developments, and I overall didn't really appreciate it to its fullest potential. Now that I ACTUALLY watched it, I wanna talk about the many qualities it has.
A Silent Voice has a pretty simple story. It's about a boy who bullied a deaf girl, and his friendships and character start to break down as he grows up. It's also about a deaf girl who feels that she is the source of the problem I just mentioned. This basic relationship between characters is really interesting because all the friends surrounding Ishida seem to take their own sides. Some side with Ishida, saying that its Shoko's fault that she was disliked, and some say that it's Ishida's fault for bullying her in the first place.
The pacing of this movie can be percieved as good or bad depending on whether you enjoy the genre or not. The story is very simple, and it takes place in a very real-world scenario. I really like how simple it is, but some of the characters were kinda weird and I didn't understand some of their intentions. I just think the execution of the story was wonky when you look at the fine details. The base story, in other words the main plots points, were really good! I think the pacing overall was fine. Of course, I won't be rating the pacing because I don't think that's fair for a movie.
I wanna talk about the art and audio in this movie. GOD the visuals are so good. Like this style of animation and character design looks so pretty. The scenery, the character's eyes, just everything. The only reason the visuals aren't higher is because not much happened where they could go all out like in Demon Slayer for example. Otherwise, the visuals are amazing. The music was really well done too! I like how it complements every scene, adding emotion to big scenes and setting the mood to other ones. Really well executed and reminds me of Bunny Girl Senpai's music in some ways.
Lastly, I wanna talk about the ending. Everything was perfectly wrapped up. All the characters came to a consensus and became friends again. No loose threads, even Ueno accepts Shoko. I really like how Ishida finally is confident enough with himself to understand that he deserves to have friends and that he deserves to be accepted by people. This movie has a really great theme and message, and I really appreciate it for that. Overall, an great, simple, emotional movie. Not as good as Your Name tho.
