Review:
found thru hype while airing
This was a very strong first season for an anime. With only 13 episodes to work with, this show set up a great story, had some very interesting characters, and made me ask a LOT of questions.
The story has a lot of potential for mystery and big plot twists later on. It kind of reminds me of Attack on Titan's first season, with lots of mystery and questioning the situation. The concepts of the show are also really cool. The power system and power scaling are very interesting, almost being a mix of Jujutsu Kaisen's cursed energy and Demon Slayer's total concentration breathing. I think the concepts of this "Tao" power make for not only a unique show, but very entertaining one fight-wise.
The characters were pretty cool! Definitely one of the weaker sections of this show, but by no means bad. With only 13 episodes, it's very hard to make all the characters super likable. They all have cool powers, interesting motives, and unique backstories. A lot of them died, but a lot of the very interesting ones survived which I was happy about.
The pacing of this show was very good, there were a lot of flashbacks, but they were very necessary and there was lots of action overall. I think there was plenty of stuff going on and I really wasn't all that bored when watching it.
The audio was very impressive, mainly the music. I love the themes they play throughout fights, they're very fitting and add to the atmosphere. The old Japanese stlye of the music reminds me a lot of Demon Slayer's OST, which is one of my favorite OSTs in anime.
The visuals were also impressive. A lot of the fights were very smooth with little flaws. The art style is nothing unique and sometimes the characters were drawn kinda funny, but the fights were done very well. Pretty damn impressive overall.
This show was surprising in quality and made me very excited for the story that is to come and the future seasons overall!
