How to Build Your Mini Dragon

All of the dragons here use the same basic design template, so once you can build one you can build them all! Below I have provided a series of steps for putting together a mini dragon.

Here is a typical mini dragon model sheet after it has been printed, with the parts labeled:

The colored dots represent where different parts need to be glued together. For example, after assembling the 2D back spines piece, it is glued onto the back of the body where the yellow dot is.

It's best to start by building the head and body. After scoring along the red dotted lines (if you're using cardstock), cut out each piece along the solid black lines and make preparatory creases along the dotted lines.

From there, I tend to first glue the ends of each piece together to form a sort of rectangular ring.

After that I glue the top and bottom flaps down. This can be a little tricky for dragons with heads that aren't simple rectangles, but with enough patience and care it can be done without too much hassle.

With the head and body completed, it's time to move on to the 2D components. Don't glue the head and body together yet, as it makes attaching the 2D parts a bit more difficult.

2D parts have two sides that must be glued back to back. Some will have a tab on both sides, while other parts may have a tab on only one of the halves. Be careful not to glue two tabbed wing/horn/ear halves together!

The tabs on the 2D components should line up with the white spots on the head and body. Glue each of these onto the head and body in their respective places.

I tend to put on the back spines before the wings on the body, and I highly recommend that you glue on the horns before the ears since they might overlap.

With all of the 2D parts attached, it is finally time to put the head on the body.

And voila! Your mini dragon is complete!
