uOttawa Nordiq in Lake Placid

uOttawa Nordiq Coaches Sheila and John helped support the Nakkertok Junior Development Team (NJDT) for a weekend training camp and racing in Lake Placid, New York.

Three uOttawa Nordiq athletes (Liam, Evan, and Katherine) train with this Nakkertok team to benefit from the year-round training, personalized coaching with coach Kieran Jones, and high performance training and racing opportunities. Evan joined seven of this NJDT Teammates at the Lake Placid camp.

There was plenty of high quality training over the weekend, but also time to enjoy the amazing Adirondack region.

Perfect post-rollerski recovery option at Jay Rapids!

It was a successful training camp that finished off with an epic race - the Climb to the Castle - an 8 km skate rollerski event up the toll road that climbs Whiteface Mountain, the 5th highest peak in the Adirondacks.

The course has a relentless 8% grade and no flats or downhills . . . so it was a unique kind of challenge for all competitors!

Evan had a great race, finishing 15th in the Open Men's category. uOttawa Nordiq Coach Sheila loves long climbs and has done this race a few times. The experience (or workouts with uOttawa Nordiq?) paid off and she had her best time and finish yet (2nd overall in the women's category), while coaches John and Kieran were essential support (and cheerleaders!).

You can read Fasterskier's report about the race here.

Carleton U Ravens Varsity Nordic Ski Team had three Nakkertok athletes attending the training camp. They all had impressive races, with Aidan finishing 2nd overall men, Zoe finishing 4th overall women, and Ezra finishing 12th overall men.
