This is a friendly competition among Canadian University/College nordic ski teams (athletes + alumni, & coaches can compete) involving pushups completed in 1 minute, scored cross country running style (add up reps of the top 6 on each team).
Organize and bring together Canadian University/College Nordic Ski Teams for an “event” that all teams can take part in regardless of their training/team status in the pandemic.
Provide an opportunity for athlete motivation, team goal setting, and something positive, concrete, and achievable amidst a lot of uncertainty.
Promote University nordic skiing at a time when high school students are planning for next year, and encourage continued involvement by reaching out beyond current athletes (alumni).
Why pushups? COVID has created different team dynamics, including students living away from the team (studying from home online), or cancelled or limited group training - but athletes/coaches/alumni can still be part of their team and contribute from anywhere!
More details about the pushup competition HERE.
While there is a lot of uncertainty, some despair, and big changes in everyone's lives right now, the first snow is still coming and we can all look forward to getting outside to enjoy our favourite Winter activities (like skiing, skiing, and skiing!).

The Ski Through School Pilot Project aims to inspire and encourage U18 skiers to keep skiing through College/University. The project involves (1) a campaign to promote skiing through school; (2) an afternoon with U18 athletes at uOttawa hosted by our women's team; and (3) evaluation and dissemination of the project so that this initiative can grow at other schools and even in other sports.
Thanks to the Nordiq Canada Women's Committee for funding this initial project.

Looking for ski equipment? We've got you covered! Because the Ottawa-Gatineau area has such a large and passionate xc ski community, you can find a lot of used xc ski gear that owners are happy to pass on. This is good news to many students, who don't have a lot of spare cash to spend on ski equipment. Check out our list of Ski Swaps and tips on finding the best equipment.
And if you’re someone who has ski gear that you no longer use, it’s a great opportunity to let someone else enjoy it and help fundraise for local clubs!
