Nakkertok Enduro 2018

The Nakkertok Enduro was a huge success! Skiers celebrated the end of the ski season and helped raise funds for the Nakketok Nordic Junior Development Team (NJDT). Sunny skies greeted a large number of participants who toed the start line at 10:15 AM with pretty amazing ski conditions for March 31.

A unique feature of the event is the diversity of skiers that it brings together: Enduro competitors ranged from little Racing Rabbits to Master's 70+, including national ski team members and Olympians. And they were all skiing together of a fun 2.5 km loop that lapped through the stadium for maximum cheering.

ENDURO TEAMS are popular way to do this event. The Enduro had 2, 3, & 4 person teams, with members tagging their partner in the stadium exchange zone.

Strategies of number of laps to ski before tagging off are debatable, but by the end of the day most teams tagged off after 1 lap . . .

Top Men's 4-Person Team (minus Aidan who was skiing his lap). These guys skied 110km . . .

2-time xc ski Olympian (& Nakkertok Coach) Wayne Dustin teamed up with some young Racing Rabbits

NJDT/Nakkertok head coach Kieran Jones paired up with former NJDT athlete Patrick Van Walraven - they were 2nd overall on the day and won the 2-person team division, skiing 110 km. Meanwhile Kieran's athletes are hard at work counting his laps . . .

Former JNDT athlete and current National Team member Katherine Stewart-Jones paired up with her dad Kevin.

Not only was this girl's team seriously fast over the entire 6 hours, they had the best costumes & great team spirit (they were 2nd in the Women's 4-person division)

Legendary coach team of Dave Mallory and Geoff Tomlinson skied 67.5 km.

The event attracted a surprising number of younger skiers who teamed up with family and friends.

Hat's off to the 22 IMPRESSIVE SOLO SKIERS, and especially to the group of Juvenile girls that included Lili Thomas (born 2003) who won the overall Women's Solo category and skied 66.5. km!

The Men's solo event was won by Nakkertok Coach Etienne Grall who skied 80 km.

Sprint finish by Master's Solo winner Carolyn Johnson-Grall who skied 57.5 km.

Team skiers had plenty of time to hang out in the sun, fuel up with event-provided soup, drink, and Finnish pancakes, and cheer on other racers when not skiing!

uOttawa Nordiq at the Nakkertok Enduro

uOttawa Nordiq's Katherine Denis led off for our team, chasing SJAM groomer Dave Adams on first lap (when conditions were quick!).

Our uOttawa Nordiq Women's team Katherine, Elodie, Nathalie and coach Sheila skied 92.5 km and won the Women's 4-person team category.

uOttawa Nordiq's Liam, Evan, & Katherine train with the NJDT and helped organize the event. . . Liam and Katherine also skied on teams (and Liam was the MC) when they weren't busy counting laps.

Coach John is still smiling after doing the Enduro event solo . . .

Thanks Nakkertok NJDT & volunteers for a terrific event!

RESULTS at this link, and MORE PICTURES here. Thanks NJDT athletes for counting all those laps!

The event meant big changes to the Nakkertok Enduro Wall of Fame (which previously only had 2017 results!). Check below for an updated version.
