The public health measures that can help stop the spread of COVID-19 are clear: frequent handwashing, physical distancing, wearing face coverings and, where available, testing and contact tracing. But for residents of Nairobi’s informal settlements, multiple barriers make it difficult or impossible to follow these practices. Those barriers must be understood and addressed. Without action, the pandemic may quickly spread, with potentially severe impact on the populations of these settlements and surrounding areas.
This brief presents insights obtained directly from residents of these settlements into the obstacles they face.

Although COVID-19 is reportedly under control in Tanzania as of May 2021, it remains a threat as it continues to spread across the African continent and around the world. Continued vigilance is essential to ensure that the country is prepared to address a potential resurgence of COVID-19 as well as outbreaks of other infectious diseases.

In cooperation with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF has implemented the innovative UNICEF/CDC Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) in South Sudan. The project is intended to inform rapid Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) activities for the Ministry of Health's response to COVID-19.
This brief provides an overview of the CFM in South Sudan and how this project could be institutionalised to inform response efforts now and in the future.
