Implementing RCCE for Ebola Virus Disease preparedness and response in East Africa cross-border areas

JULY 2021 - An Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in August 2018, putting neighboring countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Tanzania, on high alert for potential cross-border transmission (‘EVD importation’). Engagement of communities in the border areas was therefore essential to increasing and maintaining a high perception of Ebola risk among communities, increasing their knowledge about prevention measures as well as early identification of symptoms including what to do and where to go in case someone became ill.
