At last it happened, we won against Planet CC. As far as I remember we lost to Planet CC in last 4 of our encounters and twice they stopped us during playoffs. So we were so relieved at the end of the day. As a matter of fact we didn’t even surpass 100 in all of our meetings, so this was a big deal. Anyway let me get into details.

The day started around 7ish when couple of us left home to check field conditions after the rain. Our ground is awesome … simple awesome, there were hardly any puddles. We were sure that we could at least play in our ground. But Planet team did not agree and they wanted us to come over there as game was scheduled to happen in their ground. We drove for more than an hour to find out that we could only swim in that ground. We could convince them to come back to our ground as everyone wanted to play that day. Anyway we drove back and game started at 1 o’clock, consensus was to have a 30 overs game.

Planet CC won the toss and chose to bat, no surprise there based on history. Same as any other game this year, bowlers bowled a very tight line and we took 6 of their wickets for 71 runs. Then Dharmesh counter attacked and started hitting all over the place. He had a good aggressive innings of 61. Hemesh also had a sensible innings. Only bad part on the Titans part was last 5 overs costed us 41 runs. Again we dropped couple of sitters on the field. We were given a target of 167 in 30 overs. Only Srinu stood out in bowling department, his deliveries were unplayable. He gave away just 11 runs in 6 overs and bowled 2 of their good batsmen.

We knew Planet has a decent bowling. Almost all bowlers have impeccable control over line and length. They bowl hardly any extras. We started cautiously with one plan in mind, we will keep wickets for last 10 overs and may be it’s possible with the powerhouse middle order we have on our side. First 10 overs Prabhu and Varun made only 34 runs without losing any wicket. Next 10 overs we could gather 53 more runs. Prabhu was batting effortlessly and got good support from Varun (20) and Madhu (19) runs. By 21st over Sourav and Manoj were in the middle and target was to get 80 runs in 10 overs. It is a tough task against Planet bowlers. But current form batsmen had different plans, they batted positive and sensible. Runs started flowing, most of them in 2s and 3s until 25th and 26th overs. They scored 30 runs in those 2 overs, in which Manoj scored 2 back-to-back fours in 25th and back-to-back sixes in 26th over. Those 2 overs sealed the game for us. Manoj left in 29th over with just 6 runs left on the board. Sourav scored the last winning boundary and Titans took the game home with one over to spare. I know only one player would be so proud to see this Titans innings, that would be Chen. Manoj was MoM for his well deserved match winning innings. Manoj, keep up the good batting.
