Game against Rebels
——————————
I will keep it short because of obvious reasons. We lost the game convincingly due to two reasons. We were 40 to 50 runs short in batting as our middle order yet again failed to spin bowling. The second reason is ultimate, dropping catches … not 1 or 2 or 3 … 7 catches. It was not simply our day on the field. Two positive points from this game, we wrapped 2 top teams (Collegeville and Rebels) up in low score but gave it away due to our mistakes and our bowling unit didn’t give up in spite up watching so many dropped catches. But at the end of the day we simply didn’t deserve to win this game.
Game against BOCC
——————————
Just quite the contrary, very next day we won the game convincingly. I guess we can’t win all the game after all :) One way it’s good, it keeps us grounded and not over confident.
Anyway it rained all night and we were doubtful that game may not happen. But man, our ground is awesome with perfect drainage system. By 11 o’clock ground was ready like a temple for the auspicious event. Our lucky charm for toss did not work this time and we lost the toss. As expected we were asked to field first. Vidya and Srinu troubled the openers from get-go by some quality controlled swing bowling. Not only they got few of their top order batsmen, they troubled incoming batsmen too. Only inform Jon Keenan resisted and had a composed innings of 71. He also gave some chances but we couldn’t grab it. In the middle Prabhu, Varun and Suresh bowled really good with a tight line and no room for batsmen to hit. Suresh continued where he left in his last game and kept on troubling batsmen. The plan was not to let them score freely as long as we can and show them our trump card at the end. Chaitu was introduced for last 8 overs and their frustration continued and wickets started tumbling. The best part of Chaitu’s bowling was line, length, control, variation, judgement, rhythm and stamina. It was not a joke to bowl continuously for 8 overs with same or more pace in that heat. MoM Chaitu, hats off to you and be confident (not over-confident) about your bowling every time you step on the field. BOCC were all out for 160.
We know chasing is bit tough for us and we were little skeptical in the beginning as Dinu & Prabhu went in and came back in a hurry as if they had a plane to catch :) Varun and Madhu went in and started playing steady and build a partnership. Varun who is slowly cementing down 1st down place for himself, had two good innings in 2 days. On the other hand, Madhu was playing all text book shots. From a distance it was looking like as if he was teaching everyone how to play variety of shots in perfection. They had 60+ run in partnership and came back to pavilion in quick succession. Srinu and Manoj went in and started playing cautiously. Looking at our recent middle order strength, our next 3 or 4 batsmen were padded up in pavilion to bat. But Srinu and Manoj had different plans, they had a great partnership and finished the game by themselves and did not give anyone a chance. Manoj batted aggressive and scored 57 not out. Srinu gave a good support and did not throw away his wicket until end. All four batsmen played spin bowling very well. It was a good feeling to chase a score and win it at last. It was a close contest between Manoj and Chaitu for man-of-the-match but at the end bowler took it home.
