We waited waited and waited some more but here it is our first taste of Victory in GPCL in our 4th game. It was two game weekend for Titans and we beat the opponents comfortably in both the games.
First up was the game against the Batting powerhouse Delaware in Evansburg Ground on Saturday. The sun was out, the outfield was immaculate and we won the toss and elected to bat on a belter. Sachin and Prabhu were off to a flyer as we score 12 off the first over and then Prabhu got out in the 2nd over edging an unplayable delivery from Hur. Sachin and Sudhakar then batted sensibly to see off titans till the 12th over when Sudha was given out LBW then went in our RSD from Bangalore, Madhu. Sachin unfortunately retired hurt from a snorter from Omar Raja that hit his arm ( get well soon Sachin !!! ). 3rd down was our new recruit from Kashmir, Manoj Zalpairi. Manoj and Madhu put in a good partnership of close to 40 odd runs with some spectacular shots ( 1 six over deep midwicket which had sachins car worried ). Manoj was unluckily to get run out at the runners end when he backed up too much and Khurshid deflected a drive from Madhu onto the stumps ( Manoj you had a 50 there on Saturday, he scored 26 ). In went our most consistent batsman of this season Sourav. Madhu and Sourav scored consistently all around the wicket and running smartly to convert ones to twos. They both carried titans to a well composed 130 for 3 of 27 overs, a right platform to blast in the final ten. Madhu was out caught of Khurshid’s bowling for a very well made 36 and in went Vidhya. What followed in the next 13 overs can be characterized as murder. We scored 152 runs of the last 13 overs with some huge sixes coming off of Sourav, Vidhya and Shanmugh. Vidhya got out for a well made 51 of 26 balls and in came Shan. Sourav got out for a match winning 62 of 44 balls. Shan ended the innings with two back to back boundaries at 282. He had scored 45 form just 20 balls with 2 towering sixes and 4 equally brutal boundaries. New comer Arunav scored 8 from 4 balls and ran well with Shan to finish the innings.
Though 282 was a very good score we knew that on that outfield the bowlers needed to stick to their discipline and fielders needed to be on their toes to restrict a very good batting line up of Delaware. As expected Waqas and Hur came out all guns blazing. We missed a couple of opportunities to dismiss both the batsmen though, dropped catches and it really hurt our bowlers as they took a liking to our bowlers and hit them around the park. Delaware raced to 48 from 6 overs when team made the choice of reducing the pace on the ball and handed the ball to Vidhya. It immediately paid off as Hur was out caught at long on trying to hit sixes. Waqas followed a while later by edging to keeper Manoj off Vidhya. Their runs stopped coming once Vidhya and Varun started their spell and wickets were falling regularly. Varun started his spell by cleaning up Bhaumik with an inswinging yorker. Next to go was their dependable and calm headed batsman Amir Rafique caught at short third man off Vidhya. MoM Vidhya finished his spell by taking his fifth from a brilliant stumping by Manoj. Varun finished his spell with two crucial wickets. If not for the dropped catches he would have had 3. Delaware found some hope through Omar Raja (50) who staged a comeback at the end but the target was too much to handle for him. Our spinners finished off the Delaware innings in 32 overs for 201. Overall a very good victory for Titans one that was thoroughly deserved.
