WSV operates on a seasonal activity check, meaning that each character requires (1) canon and Chime-worthy submission every 3 months at minimum to stay active. We are a relaxed group but encourage members to do more than the minimum requirement.
Each season (and their in-game counterpart) is as follows:
Winter (Fallow): December, January, February
Spring (Plentiful): March, April, May
Summer (Tidal): June, July, August
Autumn (Umbral): September, October, November
In order to be considered safe, your submissions MUST follow the rules below, and you need to follow the format found on and then comment on THIS journal prior to the end of the season to have you and your characters marked safe.
It is not considered enough to simply upload, submit, and cash your piece. You must comment on the linked journal to be marked safe.
Activity checks must be a canon and chime-worthy piece, memes are not acceptable for activity checks even if they earn currency
Activity checks must be submitted to the group within the season they are for.
For Example: An Activity check for the Spring season must be submitted within the months of March, April, or May
Activity checks require a minimum (50) word IC description
All collaborators on a piece (collab/roleplay) are able to use said piece as an Activity check for their involved character
Each character requires their own activity check
"Double-dipping" is not allowed
an example of "Double-dipping" is: Matrix has 3 characters in Timberhold; Ylva, Mickey, and Mouse. Matrix makes a piece featuring Ylva, Mickey, and Mouse and uses the piece to save all 3 characters.
Failure to save any of your characters will result in your removal from the group
All current characters must have an Activity Check completed for the season before any new characters can be brought in
Retiring a character means to take them out of active play with a piece of content that explains with an in character reason why this character will not be around anymore. (i.e. they went missing in a storm, someone from their family found them and asked them to come home, etc)
A retirement piece must be a canon and chime-worthy piece with an included 100 word in character description for the fate of your character.
Retirements can be completed while you as a member remain in the group, or done with the intention of you as a member leaving the group.
Make sure prior to officially retiring your character that you cash all pieces you'd like to for said character. Once you officially retire a character, their chime total is frozen and cannot be subtracted from or added to. If you have any art pieces, roleplays, etc that you want to finish up for a character and get chimes for them, please make sure you cash them before retiring your character to ensure they are added to their chime total.
When retiring a character and bringing them back in the future, the following rules/restrictions apply;
There are no additional fees to bring a character out of retirement (members must still pay fees to bring in a character)
Your character will keep previously purchased mutations, accessories, etc, but you must repurchase any abilities
The chime count your character retired with will remain with them when they are brought back into the group (only applies if the member remains in the group)
The character's name will be permanently reserved, meaning no new characters can be brought in with that name should you decide in the future to bring them back
The name is forever tied to this character however, it cannot be used as a way to save the name to be used on a different character of yours in the future.
Your character's rank progress is reset to untasked
How do you retire a character?
Create a canon and chime-worthy piece with an included 100 word in character description for the fate of your character, it can be either literature or art
Submit the piece to the group in the character's faction folder
In your cashing ticket, cash the piece like you would any normal piece, but inform us alongside it that it is being used as your character's retirement piece
When cashing this, make sure you add on the chimes your retirement piece would be worth to your character's previous chime total, as you will still earn the chimes for it and for properly retiring a character, your character will keep their previous chime total!
You can do a retirement piece that includes your character + another member's character that they are wanting to retire without collaborating on it. However, there are still some rules/restrictions for it to be considered a proper retirement for both characters.
Only the artist/writer who made the piece may claim chimes for it. The other member who did not contribute to the piece itself cannot claim the final chimes for it.
Both of the members who are retiring characters together must each write a 100 word in character description individually. If only one member includes this, then only their character will be considered properly retired. The character who does not have this will be considered forced retired.
Force retirement means to retire a character without any sort of canon retirement piece. This can be done simply by a member requesting it, or a member leaving mid-season without properly retiring any of their active characters.
If a member does not provide any specific reasons to the other members of the group about where their character canonically went, the default is for the character to simply have gone missing.
When a character is force retired and bringing them back in the future, the following rules/restrictions apply;
Members must pay an "inactive" fee when bringing the character back of 5 chimes on top of the additional character creation fee, even if the character creation fee is free (like in the case of the second character)
Like all character creation, all of your current characters must be marked as active for the season before bringing a force retired character back.
The character(s) does not keep their previous chime total, and if they are brought back, their chime total is reset to 2 chimes
The name of the character(s) will not be reserved, and their name is available to others to use for any other character
The character does not keep any accessories, abilities, etc that was previously purchased, and their rank is reset to untasked
How do you force retire a character?
Simply let us know by a message in your cashing ticket that you'd like to force retire your character. Failure to inform us you want to force retire a character and not saving them by the end of the season will mark them as inactive instead and follow the protocol below.
Inactivity is in reference to failure to complete the seasonal activity check for your character. This can be a result of not commenting at all on the activity journal or failure to follow all of the guidelines to be considered usable for activity (following the format, canon content, 50 word description, etc)
Characters that go into an inactive state are considered missing.
If a member fails to save ANY of their active characters, the member is removed from the group and all of their active characters are marked as inactive and IC considered to have gone missing.
When a character is marked as inactive, the following rules/restrictions apply;
Members must wait a full season before bringing the inactive character back into activity.
To bring an inactive character back, you must pay the "inactive" fee on top of any character creation fees (even if the character creation fee is technically free if it's your second character).
Like all character creation, all of your current characters must be marked as active for the season before bringing an inactive character back.
The character does not keep their previous chime total, and if they are brought back, their chime total is reset to 2 chimes.
The name of the character(s) will not be reserved, and their name is available to others to use for any other character.
The character does not keep any accessories, abilities, etc that was previously purchased, and their rank is reset to untasked.
If a character is brought back and repeatedly marked as inactive, on the third inactivity marking, the member forfeits the ability to bring back the character and the character is permanently marked as inactive.
If a member wants to leave the group, they must inform staff through a ticket on the discord. They do not need to provide specific reasons for their want to depart from the group, but all of staff must be notified of their want to leave the group.
DMing a single staff member will not suffice as notice of their want to leave the group.
It is up to the member to retire their characters to give them a canonical end before their departure from the group. If they do not want to retire any of their characters, then their characters follow the rules of forced retirement.
Leaving the group without any notice to staff will result in their characters being marked as inactive immediately.
If reapplying to the group in the future and a member PROPERLY RETIRED their characters;
Previous members may reapply with characters that were previously retired. Their chime count however is reset to 2 chimes, and they do not keep any of their previous purchases (abilities, mutations, accessories, ranks, etc)
If reapplying to the group in the future and a member FORCE RETIRED their characters;
Previous members CANNOT reapply with characters that were force retired. The character being used during the try out must be a brand new character, or one that was properly retired previously.
In order to bring back a force retired character if they are accepted again into the group, members must wait for their 3 month trial period of the group to be completed before bringing in a second character, and if they want to bring back the force retired character, they must pay the inactive fee on top of any other character creation fees.
If proper notice is given to staff about your departure from the group, you will be allowed to keep any unused banked tokens (free rank ups, free character, etc) and they will still be here should you choose to return.
Leaving the group due to inactivity or without notifying staff properly will void all unused tokens.
If for any reason you need to take a break, but don’t want to leave the group entirely or run the risk of being removed for inactivity, we permit members to take a hiatus.
Hiatuses may last up to two seasons. If you need a longer break, then we ask that you please consider your position in the group.
Hiatuses can be requested at most up to two weeks prior to the end of a seasonal activity check to have yourself and your characters considered safe. If one is requested within the final two weeks, there is no guarantee that it will be granted as staff will be doing end-of-season wrap up. We will never ask for the reason behind your need for a break. Everyone is entitled to their privacy, so don’t feel pressured to give any reasoning behind your hiatus request.
To request a hiatus, simply open a ticket informing us you are requesting one, and for how long you think the hiatus may last (only one season or two).
DMing a staff member or putting in a post in the absences channel on the discord do not suffice as a formal hiatus request. If you post in the absences that you'll be away for the season, but do not submit a formal hiatus request through a ticket and fail to submit any activity checks for your characters, you will be removed from the group for inactivity. The same goes for DMing a staff member about needing a hiatus.
There is no need to take a hiatus if you only need a couple of weeks break in the middle of a season. This is more so if you do not think you will be able to turn in activity for any of your characters due to real life circumstances.
If you feel ready to return to normal activity, you may terminate your hiatus early. Again, simply note the group informing the admin team of this.
When players return from hiatus, they will be required to submit one canon and currency-worthy piece within the first month of their return.
