Chimes (coined from "Wind chime") is the standard currency for WSV. There are various ways to earn Chimes, whether through artwork, literature, and roleplays to character memes.
Chimes earned from content depicting a certain character will belong to that character only.
There is no limitation on how many chimes one may earn per month per character.
Only currently active characters may earn chimes. If you officially retire a character before cashing any remaining pieces for them, you will not longer be able to cash them for their chimes, as well as they will not be able to be cashed should you decide to bring back that character for the future.
All pieces, regardless of art, comic, animation, literature, or roleplay, must have a minimum of a 50 IC word description of what is going on in the piece. You can describe the scene, what your character is thinking in the moment, etc. This applies regardless of if the piece will be used for an activity check or not.
PLEASE REFER TO OUR "SUBMISSION GUIDELINES" PAGE FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PIECES TO BE CONSIDERED CHIME-WORTHY.
All artwork must have a minimum of a simplified but recognizable background in order to be considered Chime-worthy.
Headshots/Busts earn 1 Chimes
Half body/Full body earn 2 Chimes
As a general rule of thumb, to be considered half body vs bust, we should be seeing a quarter or more of at least 3 legs.
The following images are guides to understand the differences between headshots/busts and half body/full body in a couple different ways:
Collaborations must have equal (or relatively equal) participation from all participants. A collaboration earns the highest possible value amongst participating characters, meaning:
Player A and Player B collaborate on an illustration where Player A's character is featured with 50% of their body visible while Player B's character has 90% of their body visible, the collaboration earns 2 Chimes for Player B's character featured as a fullbody.
Comics must have at least 3 panels in which your character is featured as a headshot (at minimum) - they earn a base price of 3 Chimes
Each panel must be able to be a standalone submission; this means blinking between panels, slight changes in the face, etc. do not count.
Your character must be featured in at least 2 out of 3 of the base 3 panels in order to count for the comic earning.
If doing a collaboration, the characters belonging to each member working on the comic should be featured in at least one panel each.
For an example, if smimley and Spooky do a collaboration with Irina and Perseus, Irina can be featured in only one panel, Perseus can be featured in the next panel, and the third minimum required panel can feature either of them, or another character/scene.
In the above example, both smimley and Spooky would earn the comic chimes so long as those standards are met and they've both done work on every panel.
If you are including multiple of your own characters in your own comic that you are working solo on, each character of yours in the comic must be featured at minimum twice to earn the comic chimes for all characters.
If smim is doing a comic featuring her characters, Irina and Yew, and Irina is in 2 panels and Yew is only in 1 panel, Irina would earn the 3 comic chimes, and Yew would only earn whatever the individual panel she's featured in would earn.
For every additional panel that is a headshot at minimum, earns an additional +1 Chime (full bodies do not count for more chimes).
Panels that are just a character's eye, paws, tail, etc do not count towards the 3 panel minimum, or for an additional chime after the 3 panel minimum.
For community bonuses, per comic page, earn +1 Chime for each unique character shown that is not part of any of the contributor(s) character set. This does not repeat if the same character is featured twice on the same page in two different panels.
In order for a piece to count as an animation, your character itself must be moving/animated.
Simple Animations earn 3 Chimes
A simple animations can be: eye blinking, ear flicks, etc.
Complex Animations earn 6 Chimes
A complex animation can be: multiple moving body parts/limbs, walk cycles, etc.
PMVs are a set of images set to a song that can resemble animation, but usually are not fluidly moving. At minimum, PMVs must be sketches, and ALL forms of PMVs must include a rough background.
FOR SKETCHED PMVs
2 chimes per 30 seconds of content (must reach 30 seconds minimally to count as a PMV)
FOR FLAT COLORED/MONOCHROMATIC PMVs
3 chimes per 30 seconds of content (must reach 30 seconds minimally to count as a PMV)
Every 30 additional seconds of the PMV will earn another 2 or 3 chimes depending on the stage of drawing done.
A 1 minute and 30 second grey-scale (monochromatic) PMV will earn a total of 9 chimes
If the PMV is 2 seconds off of the next 30 second interval, we will round it up. Anything below that will be counted up until the previous 30 second interval.
A 58 second grey-scale (monochromatic) PMV will earn a total of 6 chimes
A 1 minute and 16 second grey-scale (monochromatic) PMV will earn a total of 6 chimes
The community bonus will apply to PMVs regardless of type, but only +1 Chime may be earned per unique character featured
A character featured at the 5 second marker, and that same character being featured at the 20 second marker will not count for two community bonuses.
In addition the above, featuring a character that does not belong to you (or your collab partner when applicable) earns an additional +1 Chime per character featured.
You may complete gift art of currently active characters, or participate in art trades between members of currently active characters, and earn chimes for it! While we would much rather people focus on collaborating together and telling stories together, we understand that sometimes you wanna surprise someone, or draw a character you can't collab with. There are a few limitations/rules to keep in mind;
Members are limited to cashing 3 gift arts/trades per season.
Gift art/trades should be fully shaded and with a background to count. So for example, this piece of Percy would count, but these floating heads would not count. It follows all the same rules as normal when submitting chimes for a character.
Gift art/trades earn +1 chime that will be added on to a character of your choice. This is earned regardless of if the character featured in the gift art is a head shot, or a full body.
There are no IC-word descriptions that need to be provided. We don't want you writing something up for someone else's character, and it ends up being out of character for them!!
All gift arts/trades will go into the Gift Art folder in the deviantart group.
A literature piece is a stand-alone short story that does not directly reply to or follow another character's narrative, only their own. The minimum requirement of a solo-lit piece is a minimum of 500 words to be considered Chime-worthy.
The first 500 words earns 1 Chime
Every additional 500 words earns 1 Chime
For example, a solo literature piece with a word count of 1800 earns 3 Chimes
Post-by-Post Roleplays are collaborative writing pieces where two (or more) players participate and write paragraphs in a turn-based order. The minimum requirement of a Post-by-Post roleplay is 3 posts from each participating character, in order to be considered Chime-worthy.
The first 500 words for your character earns 1 Chime
Every additional 500 your for each character earns 1 Chime
Note, word count must hit the next tier in order to earn the additional Chime
If Character A has a word count of 1200 and Character B has a word count of 1999, Character A earns 2 Chimes and Character B earns 3 Chimes
Script-Style Roleplays are collaborative writing pieces where two (or more) players participate in a more fluid style usually denoted by a change in colour text for the change of character perspective. The minimum requirement of a Script-Style roleplay is a minimum word count of 1000 words written altogether.
The first 1000 words in total earns 1 Chime
Every additional 500 words earns 1 Chime
Note, word count must hit the next tier in order to earn the additional Chime
A script style RP between 2 characters with 2280 words will earn both characters 3 Chimes
