It is believed that the First Ones, the first who entered the land by finding the shore, crawled onto the land in a form similar to that of the mighty seal. The life water brought to the land sang the tales of old and wonder. A tale shared from old, spread amongst Valleyfolk who would listen. Some believe it is simply a work of fiction, while others believe it is as true as the blood in their veins.
Beneath the crashing waves, in times long forgotten the cries of the sea beasts echoed to the mighty powers above begging to grant them the ability to live across the land. They wanted the true life that the land beasts called their own, instead of the shapeless void they had beneath the rumbling waves. Where they wriggled aimlessly with no purpose, no being. This boon was granted, where legs replaced flippers and fur covered their bodies but their long two-tipped tails and old skin remained along the shore.
‘’You are granted three days to live amongst the land beasts, live as they do.
If Greed captures the soul, then we will hide your old skin, your tail and you may never return to the sea.’’
But the sea-beasts paid no heed to the warning from those who balanced the land, instead they chose to tear the land apart. Any unfortunate land beast that lay in the warpath of the sea beasts were slaughtered, their blood staining the earth in never ending red rain that changed the very colour of the landscape itself. The land beasts heard the warning, seeking revenge they stole the tails and skin of the sea-beasts. Hiding them far from reach.
When the ocean called for the First Ones to return, it was realised once their paws rejoined the water that something wrong must have occurred. They could not revert back to their old forms, the sea beasts cries echoed in despair. Their weeping was heard by the all seeing powers above who cradled the world, voices of anger boomed at the beasts below. ‘’Sea-folk, you asked to live like the land beasts. But the balance has been destroyed, you have stained the earth in irrevocable blood sacrifice. Requisition has been claimed. You will be granted the emotions of the land beasts, as punishment for the grief you have caused and you will forever suffer for your actions. Until it is time for the Eternal Hunt to claim your souls. You will weep the blood they have lost.’’
The First ones, now named Valleyfolk, were lost to the ocean but their connection continued. As generations extended, the old way of the ocean was no longer felt to be true. The call of the Ocean continued to be felt in their bones, their bond to The Eternal Hunt continued and only in death from the hunt would they fall like stars across the sky to find their way back to the ocean. ‘’Know if you Sea-Folk find yourself webbed by greed once more, you will be torn from this world.’’
Though the time of these old tales has long passed, many hold the lessons learned by the First Ones tightly to their beating hearts. The great wave of white beasts shook the balance causing great unrest to the hearts of those who know the old tales. But the once thought unstoppable force was struck down, and the ever strained equipoise was level once more.
For this keeping balance of land and ocean is the true warning, or dire consequences will be struck against all Valleyfolk.
Though the sea dwelling Valleyfolk keep themselves at a distance from their neighbours, they are fond of indulging themselves in information found throughout the other cultures. They are connected to their dreams one way or another, feeling as though they are in turn Good Omens and Bad Omens.
Eirmuirians seek out the other factions, keeping the doings of their own clan out of sight along the coast - they have a great interest in understanding the cultures of the factions across the land, especially the cultures of landlocked factions, not knowing how others could cope without the ocean.
