Queso Canyon Part 2 - Effective Hunting Strategy

Inferna, The Engulfed

If you have not read part 1 of the Queso Canyon guide, you can do so here.

Now that you understand how Queso Canyon works, its time to explain the most efficient way to hunt here. Before you start reading this part, it is important for you to note that my calculations are based on 1 leaf drop per mouse and +-20 for correction rounding. You should have more than enough cheese to hunt and upgrade pumps as you go.

  • Queso Canyon can be quite the grind, hence it is recommended that you do/leech Rare Queso Canyon maps . This is important because before you can buy a Queso Canyon map on your own you need to hunt down at least 1 Inferna, The Engulfed from Prickly Plains.
    • Alternatively, you can always buy a fresh Queso Canyon map from someone in a mapping group like Mapmeisters with Super|Brie+ or you could just ask a friend to open one for you.
  • Rare/Common Queso Canyon map rewards: While both the common and rare chests have many of the same items inside. Look at the examples given here and decide which hunting strategy is best for you.

Common Queso Canyon map rewards

Rare Queso Canyon map rewards

  • Leeching Rare Queso Canyon maps will be a great help to you. If you do not want to or can't leech maps, you can just go the long way and hunt at Queso River for Bland Queso. If you do leech maps, then the first day of hunting at Queso will be spent on farming spice leaves which could potentially save you a lot of time rather than farming bland queso on your first day.
    • Note: Just a friendly reminder, here is how much bland queso is needed to craft 1 batch of cheeses at Prickly Plains.

1 batch of Mild queso = 10 bland queso

1 batch of Medium queso = 100 bland queso

1 batch of Hot queso = 1,000 bland queso

1 batch of Flaming queso = 10,000 bland queso

1 batch of Wildfire queso = 25,000 bland queso

  • Your goals are:
    • max your queso pump upgrade
    • get the Overgrown Ember Stone Base
    • get the Ember Prison Core Trap
    • the rest, are optional.
  • The Overgrown Ember Stone Base is the 2nd best base next to Minotaur Base. Hence, if you haven't crafted the Minotaur Base, the Overgrown Ember Stone Base will be your base of choice until it is replaced with one better.
  • Wild tonics and queso pump charms will significantly increase your progress in the area.
    • Wild tonics:

Double the amount Bland Queso pumped from the Queso River.

Double the amount of Spice Leaves harvested from the Prickly Plains.

Double the amount of Nachore extracted from the Cantera Quarry.

    • Queso pump charms:

Can be used anywhere except Acolyte Realm and rift areas.

Provides additional 1 pump on each successful catch

Not affected by wild tonic, Overgrown Ember Stone base.

  • If your supply of Wild Tonic is limited, you will want to use them conservatively. Realizing your need to progress in the different cheeses to increase your pump level you will want to use your Tonic when hunting with Medium Queso Cheese to double your drop rate on Hot Leaves allowing you to craft the cheese in half the time. Maximizing your need to hunt with the cheese in both the Plains and the Quarry.
  • Since the Quarry’s loot is related to upgrading your pumps level at the River; giving you the nachos to level up your pump, it is also important to note that you should be at pump level 7 and you should have the Overgrown Ember Stone Base giving you the 50% Bland drop rate increase. Getting the base early on gives you the advantage of the extra Bland every hunt.
  • Once your pump is at level 9 you can take that sigh of relief. When hunting to upgrade to pump level 10, there is no need to use Tonic to double the nachore drop rate. From here on out, the value of Tonic is worth more in the Plains for double leaves, and by hunting the Quarry with cheese only you will get the nachores needed to upgrade your pump to level 10.
  • Queso Pump Charms are also an important part of the area and are more often used once your pump is at a level of 7 or higher. In the mean time while you are in the process of upgrading your pump you should rely on the 1000 bland from the rare maps chest you are receiving to craft your cheeses. Once your pump is at level 9 you can start using the Pump charms as often as you like, the more the better; they will give you double the drop rate at your current pump level, this does not include the bonus bland your base gives.

Note: The faster you get Bland Queso Cheese, the faster you can craft the hotter cheeses and you will need a lot of it.

Nachous, The Molten

For all hunters who will not be leeching or joining Rare Queso Maps follow these guidelines.

This is because being part of rare maps means you get the bland to skip most parts and go right to medium and hot cheese for upgrading pump .

Pumps 1 - 3

  • For pumps 1 - 3, it is recommended that you use mild cheese to upgrade these pumps. Mild cheese only cost 10 bland to craft so it will be cost and time effective. You need 35 nachore to upgrade from pump 1 all the way to 3.
  • Hunt at Queso using gouda. Once you have about 140 bland queso, head to Prickly Plains. Save 70 bland queso for crafting.

Note: If you have have lots of bland queso, you can skip this part and move on to hunting spice leaves.

  • Hunt at Prickly Plains using bland queso until you have about 60 mild leaves. Once you have that, craft some mild cheese. It is suggested that you use magic essence when crafting as it will produce more mild cheese and you will be needing a lot too. You can get magic essence from smashing some Super|Brie+. You should be able to craft 60 mild cheese from this batch of leaves using M.E(magic essence).

10 Mild spice leaf + 10 Bland queso = 3 Mild cheese

10 Mild spice leaf + 10 Bland Queso + 3 Magic essence = 6 Mild cheese

  • Once you crafted your mild cheese, travel to Canterra Quarry and hunt with mild cheese. You will start looting nachore from mouse here and once you have collected enough upgrade your pump as soon as possible.

Note: You do not need to travel back to Queso River to upgrade your pumps. Any excess nachore will be stored and carry forward for the next upgrade.

  • Hunt at Canterra Quarry until you have managed to upgrade your pump to level 3.

Pumps 4 - 6

  • Once your pump is lvl 3, at this point you need 550 nachore to upgrade from pump 3 all the way to 6. For this pump level on, it is recommended that you use medium cheese.

Pump 4: 100 nachore

Pump 5: 150 nachore

Pump 6: 300 nachore

  • Head back to Queso River to farm Bland Queso.

Pumps 7 - 10

  • Once your pump is level 6, you need 11K nachore to upgrade from pump 6 all the way to 10. It is recommended that you use either hot/flaming cheese to provide the best nachore drop.
  • You should start using wild tonics to double your hot leaves and flaming leaves drop.
  • While upgrading from pump 7 to 10, you can use wild tonics on Nachous, The Molten to increase nachore drop. You can get up to 200 nachore per hunt. If you do follow this method in upgrading your pump, you will need approximately this much to upgrade each pump:
    • Pump 7 (1000 nachore): 5 hunts of Nachous, The Molten & 5 wild tonics.
    • Pump 8 (2000 nachore): 10 hunts of Nachous, The Molten & 10 wild tonics.
    • Pump 9 (3000 nachore): 15 hunts of Nachous, The Molten & 5 wild tonics.
    • Pump 10 (5000 nachore): 25 hunts of Nachous, The Molten & 5 wild tonics.
  • Before hitting pump 9/10, it is important that you get the Overgrown Ember Stone Base first to help with the bland farming.

Queen Quesada Mouse

Hunting Queen Quesada Mouse

  • Once you have collected enough ember root and ember stone, you might be able to craft wildfire queso cheese.

25,000 Bland queso + 10 Ember root + 10 Ember stone = 3 Wildfire queso cheese

25,000 Bland queso + 10 Ember root + 10 Ember stone + 3 Magic Essence = 6 Wildfire queso cheese

  • It is not a must to hunt this mouse, but it is good to prepare the cheese for it as all queso maps will have this mouse.
  • Hunting Queen Quesada will also drop Unstable Ember Gadget. This unstable ember gadget can be poked to give a variety of loots.

For a complete list of items that can be obtained from unstable ember gadget, click here.

  • As you can see from the results below, poking more unstable ember gadgets will result in better loots.

Result from poking 2 unstable ember gadget.

Result from poking 5 unstable ember gadget.

Additional Notes

  • Wild tonics DO NOT WORK on Inferna! So don't waste it on them.
