The Imaging Centre of Excellence is located at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. It employs a vast array of people and is home to the UK's first ultra-high field 7 Tesla MRI scanner, located in a clinical environment. This site is world leading in its clinical expertise in stroke, cardiovascular disease and brain imaging, aligning NHS clinicians with academic and industrial researchers.
Precision medicine is one of the big themes in the future of health care, with the ability to improve diagnostics and patient treatment. A report focusing on the strengths of Precision Medicine in Scotland states that "Scotland is extremely well positioned to unlock the exciting and substantial productivity growth opportunities associated with Precision Medicine".
The School of Life Sciences in Dundee is home to many Research units, including "Biological Chemistry and Drug Discovery", "Cell Signalling and Immunology" and "Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorlyation and Ubiquitylation Unit". Truly world-leading research scientists work within these walls, carrying out transformative, cutting-edge Science.
Canon Medical is a leader medical software research and development centre of excellence. It employs a variety of people working as software engineers, scientists, clinical specialists, testers and business support to develop the next generation of medical imaging software. Together, they develop next-generation medical imaging software to integrate with Canon Medical scanners and other diagnostic equipment.
There are a vast array of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships available in many STEM-related areas. The Skills Development Scotland website is an excellent source of information relating to opportunities in your own area. Examples include Sustainable Resource Management, Creative Media, Social Services and Healthcare, Pharmacy Services and Scientific, Technical and Formulation Processing.

Biogelx - a biomaterials company that designs materials for cell research, toxicology and drug development and regenerative medicine
Enocell - design and manufacture Direct Methanol Fuel Cell modules, which are the most versatile and cost effective type of fuel cells today.
Antibody Analytics - design and develop biological assays using antibodies.

The Enterprise Park in Forres stretches over 100 acres and is home to many business working within STEM. These companies include:
Biomatrix water - integrate "ecology and engineering to deliver solutions which build on the power of nature. We create habitats and improve biodiversity, designing beautiful living waterscapes and nature water quality and wastewater treatment solutions which bring water to life". Dunster Biomass heating - this company specialises in renewable energy solutions for commercial and domestic environments, focusing on biomass heating systems and ground source heat pumps.
Life & sole - this is a modern personal training, rehabilitation and group exercise conditioning facility.
The Clinical Innovation Zone is situated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and brings together "a world-leading University, a forward-thinking unitary health board and the brightest industry partners to form a "triple-helix" approach to tackle global healthcare challenges". The West of Scotland Science Park has "evolved into a hub for a range of companies from life sciences and technoloy sectors", including:

The park is situated very close to the Beatson Oncology centre (image below), one of "Europe's top cancer hospitals" and the new "Translational Research Centre".
Grangemouth, which lies on the Firth of Forth, is one of the largest manufacturing sites in the UK. It is homes to INEOS and Petroineos. Petroineos is "Scotland's only crude oil refinery and "produces the bulk of fuels used in Scotland. The products from this site are used to produce bottles and pipes, cabling and insulation, food package and used within the pharmaceutical industry". The Midlothian Science Zone is a centre of science and research excellence, located to the South of Edinburgh. The zone includes:

The centre has a wealth of expertise focused on animal science and has "global recognition as the birthplace of Dolly the Sheep". The Roslin Institute, together with the Moredun Research Institute and other partners, work together to make progress in animal health, life sciences and agri-technology.
