Pigroaches (Fremosus burnelli) are a species of cockroach found in the Southern Amazon. They are descended from the American Cockroach. In length, they come in at an inch. They are completely brown save for a black emblem on their back that makes the pigroach look like its wearing a vest. The vest structure is used to amplify their calls, much like how crickets chirp.
They hide in holes in the trees most of the time, but will come down from the forest's rafters in order to feed. In terms of feeding, there is no limit as they'll use whatever they can for sustenance as long as its dead.
There are thousands of young per roach but most of them end up serving as food for most of the forest. During breeding season, they have very loud and unique calls. There are two main noises, one being a repetitive "ack" noise and the other being a sort of snorting noise, hence the name. These noises are broadcast to mates and rivals and turn the normally quiet night in the jungle into a loud and obnoxious nightmare.
