Cavecarve (petraboletus) is a genus of mold descended from Penicillium. It can be found all throughout the siberian glowcaves. It comes in a very faint mint color.
Unlike other fungi in the caves, it doesn't glow at all. However, it does smell. The smell that is emitted from cavecarve smells like a mixture of black mold and gasoline. The stench comes from its diet, rocks. The stone found in the caves is mostly metamorphic rock and asphalt sediment, which are both very rich in nutrients.
The cavecarve secretes weak acids that slowly chip away at the walls and release the trapped nutrients. The hyphae absorb the nutrients and feed the organism, allowing it to expand at a rapid pace. The only reason as to why the cavecarve hasn't completely eaten through the caves yet is due to the fact that nearly everything relies on it as a food source.
