The Brotosaurus (Gymnasiofrater tomlinsoni) is a species of lizard found in the upper Mississippi floodplains. They are descended from the Western Fence Lizard. They measure in at 5 inches in length. Their scales are an iridescent blue-green, save for a few red patches.
Like most lizards, they eat small insects. The insects that they eat include ones that feast on wild peppers, so they contain small amounts of capsaicin. The chemical, when consumed by the lizard, makes the lizard smell like pepperoni.
They can mostly be found in the woodlands that are scattered throughout the floodplains. They live on trees and in fallen logs. Nests are usually hidden under leaves or in tree hollows. After the numerous amounts of eggs are laid, they are left to survive on their own.
Their breeding season is highly unusual. Around springtime, the males and females will gather together and the males will have push up contests with each other that will last for days. The males will also make tweeting noises over and over again to try and intimidate their opponent. If the females don't get tired of watching, they will select a mate.
