Task and overview
This module covers basic environmental conditions as well as concerns that affect human behaviour in respect to the environment. Students should learn about the various components of sustainable design that we must consider while designing comfortable buildings through lecture lectures.
Tutors: Mr. Lee Xia Sheng
Project 1: Creative Essay Writing
Students are introduced to aspects of sustainable design in architecture for this assignment. While the subject of the essay had no range, students were needed to work in groups and compose an essay based on research to demonstrate a creative understanding of sustainability in architecture. The group I worked with decided to focus on integrating wind energy on a high rise building.
Project 2: Daylighting
Students will select a building as a case study of any kind to undertake a detailed analysis on thermal comfort, daylighting, and passive design, as well as a little background on the structure's aims and designs, for this project. As for this project, my group decided to do a case study of the Salinger House by Jimmy Lim.
Reflection
In this module, I have learn all the things that I have been interested when approaching towards the concept of sustainability. The aspects that was brought into the module were daylighting, acoustic, thermal comfort and many more. Throughout the whole module, the assignments and tutorial that I have done was not easy to learn but as I get deeper into the subject, I felt like I have grasped most of the aspect of the module. I wish that I could have achieve better and interesting topic for both project as that would have made my journey more fulfilling.
