Tectonics: Design Principles and Ergonomic Exploration Spaces
Tutor: Mr. Chern Li young
Project task and overview:
This project is an individual task for students to design an isolation space during the pandemic. Students are required to research ergonomic, anthropometry, materials, and tectonics. Using the design principles and elements from project 1, students need to develop it into project 2 as well.
We were given a space limitation of 5m^3 to design the isolation space according to our own ergonomic and anthropometry.
Design intention: "Being lazy, confine, and knowing the time of the day"
Banal Action: Lying down
Sketches of the design process and development:
The sketching shows what I have researched on ergonomic and anthropometry and further develop it into a design. Each development shows what I have done and using the element and principle chosen which is Gradient and Mass.
Final Design:
Reflection:
This project at first was challenging but as I progress towards the final design, I was able to learn the ergonomics and anthropometry of human proportion and applying them to the design. However, I did not develop my tectonics research and this had affected the design but this was one of the projects that I really like doing this semester and it really made me work harder completing it. I was proud of this work and will learn from the mistakes I did in this project.
