Mary Poppins Jolly Adventure

Written by @AceAstro

Join Mary, Bert, Jane, and Michael as you travel into Bert's painting for a whimsical adventure on the carousel horses

Exterior

The exterior of the ride is in Cherry Tree Lane where guests can see all the Victorian style homes of all different shades of white and brown. The Banks' house, the entrance for the ride, is a creme color with subtle hints of red accents. There is a small sign that states Mary Poppins Jolly Adventure with a silhouette of an umbrella.

Queue

When you enter the Banks's home, you can definitely tell Mary Poppins was there. It is full of wonder and life with lots of interactive experiences. The first room of the queue is the living room.

Guests wind through the living room with books that open and close by themselves and paper that flies up to reveal life events of the Banks family, tax records, and some pictures of the family. The second room is the kitchen where guests can catch cleaning supplies and move on their own as they tidy up for supper. After some time in the kitchen, you return to the doorway and head up the stairs (or elevators for people with disabilities. When you reach the stairs you enter the Banks' childrens’ room. There are toys moving by themselves everywhere you look.

The next room you enter is the bathroom. Every 5 minutes, a new toy emerges from the tub paying homage to the Can You Imagine That segment in Mary Poppins Returns. The bathroom is probably the most lively room in the Banks house with lots of toys coming up from the tub and bubbles everywhere. You exit back into the hallway where you go down stairs into the pre-show.

Pre-Show

18 guests enter a room that is themed to the outdoors with fake trees, statues, and a screen on the ceiling that is projecting the sky. There are 4 AAs lined up standing on a curb. They are Bert, Mary, Jane, and Michael, respectively. The 4 stand in front of a huge painting that Bert has just completed.

Jane: Why did we come to the park today Mary Poppins?

Mary: Bert wanted to show us his lovely painting.

Michael: That is a big painting. It is like I can walk right through it!

Bert: Well you can! Right Mary?

Mary: Bert I have no idea what you are talking about.

Jane: What do you mean we can walk through it? That is impossible?

Mary: Everything is possible, even the impossible

Bert: So what do you say Mary. Let’s take these kids on an adventure!

Mary: I guess a small trip couldn’t hurt

Load Area

The painting then starts to move backwards unveiling a huge, animated festival. This is done by having the painting on a moving platform which allows for guests to step into the magical painted world. The festival is hugely lit with some moving sets and some projected on the screens. The loading area is a regular looking carousel. Guests can choose from one of three groupings that have two horses and a single bench carriage. Once all three groupings are full with guests (4-5 people per group), cast members help with restraints. The bench has a full lap bar while the horses have a back brace. Once all three groupings are full of guests (4-5 people per group), cast members help with restraints (the bench has a full lap bar while the horses have a back brace). Once all guests are secure, the ride starts!

Scene 1; The Carousel

After all guests are loaded in, the carousel starts to spin. After the lead car does a full rotation, the track switch is turned on sending guests off the carousel and free into the park. The carousel horse poles go into the ground and are rigid in a track beneath them. The bench carts are the same.

Here is a quick mockup of how it would look (the grey is the loading platform, the brown is the carousel, and the purple is the lead car of horses and bench seat):

Scene 2; Jolly Holiday

Guests turn the corner to hear a familiar Mary Poppins tune. Guests can see Bert and Mary Poppins dancing and singing "Jolly Holiday" under a large tree (as seen above). In front of the small river behind them, guests can see the penguin waiters dancing to add more depth to the area.

Scene 3; The Race!

After guests leave the Jolly Holiday duo, they enter a horse track. Through the use of screens and speakers playing horse stomps, guests can hear the horses are coming, and they are coming fast! Quickly, the horses turn and are suddenly in the horse race! On their left, they can find Mary Poppins on her horse slightly ahead of them. And Mary Poppins wins the race! Bright camera flashes go off allowing for a transition into the next scene.

Scene 4; Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Guests pass Mary and Bert dancing to Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious celebrating Mary's big win at the race. The band behind them is all playing their music loud and proud while guests can also see Jane and Michael sitting on the fence with their candy apples; carousel horses nearby ready to go!

Scene 5; The Fountains

After having a super, fun time singing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, you enter the Gardens of Wonder. There are fountains everywhere. But these are not normal fountains, as they can change their shape and spray water in different directions. One of the statues spray water at the guests and Micheal. Near the end of the scene, Jane and Micheal go off in a different direction than Mary and Bert.

Scene 6; Wonder

The next scene has a new, original song called “Wonder” where Jane and Micheal sing about all the wondrous things they’ve seen during their time in Bert’s painting. They pick colorful items and put them in their pockets, hoping it will come home with them. While this is happening, Mary and Bert find the children and tell them it wasn’t nice of them to run off. During this, a little rain starts to pour down. Mary says they have to go before the painting gets washed away or else they are gonna be trapped in the painting forever.

Scene 7; Escape!

The whole group moves forward but is stopped by a garden wall maze! The group gets nervous, but Bert says he will guide them through it since he painted it! The guests’ horses go into the maze and twist and turn through the maze for a few moments only hearing Bert’s voice telling them where to go. Then they reach the end of the maze where they can see the festival and entrance of the painting again (duplicate of the loading room). The horses speed up and enter through the painting where guests find themselves back into London in a regular looking carnival. The Banks children ask Mary Poppins where is all the colorful attire they were wearing and all the items they stored in their pockets. Mary looks in confusion and says it is time to go home. The guests’ horses enter a small room where they unload, head through the exit, and enter the ride shop.
